he might get a pardon, after the election. the goal was to keep him out of jail but the impact on the election has to be considered.

Remember Bush commuted Scooter Libby’s sentence and kept him out of jail. Later Trump gave him the full pardon.

In both cases you can lay upon the judge the need for the commutation. Scooter was denied the opportunity to appeal before being forced into jail, Stone’s judge deliberately ignored the corrupt jury foreman in his case. Liberal judges want these guys in jail right away because they figure eventually they will get overturned, so they want to get that pound of flesh while they can.
