Back in 2012, Vermont passed a law that banned people from throwing out food scraps, forcing people to throw them in the compost.
That law went into effect on July 1 along with a statewide ban on plastic bags.....
If it was once part of something alive, like a plant or animal, the states Department of Environmental Conservation advises on its website, it does not belong in the landfill.
People do not have to compost in their backyard. They can drop off food scraps or facilities or ask their trash hauler if they provide food scrap collection.
The Vermont Retail & Grocers Association wanted to postpone the plastic bag ban because of the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.

This is what you get when the left have no idea on how to solve real problems. They concentrate on the small stuff.
And yet people keep voting for these people who will control every single aspect of their lives. The leftists know better than you, and therefore believe they have the moral authority to restrict your freedom... for your own good.
People on public sewer systems better prepare for a nightmare.
If they thought idiots flushing non-flushable wipes was causing problems, wait til folks start using their toilets as garbage disposals.
Those state legislators have a screw lose.
That made me chuckle, well said.
Because well, you know, Bernie is sooo awesome!
Welcome to socialism VT- Aint it grand? Take a second job to pay all the fiens you’ll get for not breathign correctly, or swimming without permission, or walking too fast- or or or- not compositing your scraps
The Green Animals control burlington and Brattleboro.
Out in the country , the rural part whichi makes up the majority of Vermont, they will do wnat ever they want with food scraps.
many still burn and bury their waste instead of hauling garbage to the municipal dump and paying tipping fee. The rural people do not really recycle for the most part, because they refuse to pay for it.
Living in Brattleboro or in Burlington Vermont is hell for anyone who wants a modicum of freedom. Both cities are run by socialist idiots like most cities across the country in Demoncrap states. The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont is an exception.
Rats , the Rats will Love it
Communist dictatorship.
Most of my plastic bags self-identify as paper bags. Im so confused. I think its best if I just dont move to Vermont.
You are right, as this is what will happen. Unfortunately socialism is a contagious disease and dumb people fall for it hook line and sinker.
It's What my grandparents did. Free compost and potting soil.
I had no idea it had to be legislated into law?
The basic RESPONSIBILITY of cities is to provide running water, electricity, sewer and garbage disposal.
If they can’t do that, all city management
should be fired.
Why would anyone live in Brattleboro when you could be in a comfy double-wide in the trailer park across the river in tax free New Hampshire.
My cats patrol my compost pile. They claim it as their outdoor litter box. No rats tolerated. I only have 2 cats and a very healthy productive compost heap.
Why would anyone live in Brattleboro when you could be in a comfy double-wide in the trailer park across the river in tax free New Hampshire.
Vermont has Constitutional Carry. NewH ampshire does not.
But Northern New Hampshire is a fine place. I could resemble yuor remark, LOL.
There are 8 racoon automatic-composting units on my
Porch
I also used to plumb my grey water into my gardens. That was until the county inspector found out. They made me put it back to sewer. So soon I expect they will enact laws to make me go back to doing what they said was in violation of code before.
I believe NH does have Constitutional Carry.
