Walking on Castro Street, I discovered that my shoelace had become untied. I didn't want to bend over, lest that be considered an invitation. I had to insert myself between a newspaper kiosk and a light standard, lift my leg onto the kiosk, and then tie the shoe.
San Francisco requires many adaptations to the city's way of life.
