Many of those who visit Glacier stick primarily to the Going to the Sun Road and never visit the Many Glacier Hotel area. They have missed a great sight. The Going to the Sun Road is fantastic. Many Glacier Hotel, although spartan, is one of the favorite places that we have ever stayed. Reservations are not an easy get, though.

Back in about 1984 we went to Glacier for a week’s backpacking in mid July. The trip we planned turned out not to be possible because the trails and sites were still snowed in. They mapped us out a hike that had just opened. It involved a short tunnel at the top of a mountain. We had to remove the snow to get the door to open.
There was still lots of snow just up hill from the visitor center at Logan Pass.
