As Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue stood beside President Trump in the Rose Garden Thursday afternoon, the head of a corporation that bills itself as Americas largest Hispanic-owned food company remembered his grandfather. The Spanish immigrant and Trump have something in common, Unanue said.
Were all truly blessed at the same time to have a leader like President Trump who is a builder, and thats what my grandfather did, the executive said. He came to this country to build, to grow, to prosper. And so we have an incredible builder, and we pray for our leadership, our president, and we pray for our country that we will continue to prosper and to grow.
But what were intended to be celebratory comments marking Trumps signing of an executive order that pledges to improve Hispanic Americans access to educational and economic opportunities instead fueled a firestorm of backlash targeting Unanue and Goya that culminated in widespread calls to boycott the popular brand.
As clips of Unanues remarks circulated on social media Thursday, Latinos and longtime supporters of Goyas food slammed the CEOs commendation of Trump, citing the presidents incendiary rhetoric and controversial policies aimed at minority communities and immigrants. By early Friday, Goya was still a top trending term on Twitter along with the hashtags #Goyaway and #BoycottGoya as a number of public figures, and Democrats such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) and former presidential candidate Julián Castro, criticized Unanue a third-generation Spanish American for praising Trump.

I doubt that many latinos are boycotting Goya. This is a fake news article if ever I saw one and, guess what, it favors the democrats!
We buy their great products.
You hit the nail on the head. The Unanues are a devout and generous family and I am glad the company is in such good hands.
Go to any grocery store and check out where they have the “Hispanic” or “International” or “Ethnic” section, whatever they call it. Goya produces all kinds of canned beans, you can also get rice, dried beans, Cuban-style crackers, etc.
The leftist grievance cult sure hates the type of immigrant who creates jobs and appreciates America.
Goya makes frozen Yucca flour rolls that are very tasty.
That aside, I can’t read the name without images of the Spanish painter’s works going through my mind.
Yep, professional boycotters and twitter bots.
The leftist mantra is, you can only be a true Latino if you are a Marxist, you are not authentically black unless you are a Marxist, you can only atone for “whiteness” by being a Marxist, etc.
I love Goya products! Time to buy more!
Latinos boycotting until they get hungry
Personally and despite what the media says I don’t think ANY boycott stands a chance of actually causing a slow down in sales unless the retailers themselves stop offering it.
I like their Small Red Beans - to me they taste better and are less chewey than Kidney Beans. I also liked their Roman Beans but haven’t seen that for sale for a while.
Again it’s propaganda from the media. Why is the establishment allowing a left wing small group of activists on social media to dictate who gets boycotted, who keeps their job, who gets canceled?
The media uses this group of big mouths on social media to make news and headlines to gaslight people i to thinking they represent the majority of public voices.
Always buy Goya and always will!
I’ll look for their stuff too.
Wow!
I doubt many of them are.
He’s doubling down. No apology to these “activists” or AOC or anyone. These are the times that try men’s souls, and m’man is a man, not a boy.
What small people these folks are.
You're correct. A lot of Hispanics support President Trump and this is nothing more than an attempt by ABCCBSCNNMSNBCNBCNPR to pretend otherwise.
Their stuff is pretty good. Our local Kroger in the Midwest has a whole section of it. Even when many of our Mexican workers went Kroger kept the section because many of us hillbillies had culturally mis-appropriated it. Its better than the bland stuff market to not Mexicans.
