Washington(CNN) America's top general launched an outspoken attack on the Confederacy and signaled his support for the military renaming bases named for Confederate leaders on Wednesday, in his latest public comments that seem to put him at odds with President Donald Trump.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley did not hold back in an appearance before the House Armed Service Committee, stating that "those officers turned their back on their oath," referring to the names on the bases. "It was an act of treason, at the time, against the Union, against the Stars and Stripes, against the US Constitution

Yep. Prior to the War Between the States the only interaction with Federal anything most people had was if one received or sent mail.
Does this nitwit think that no one knew this at the time and after 155 years he’s the genius sent down from high (high on what is the question) to correct the record and right this mighty (mighty old) injustice?
You don't get it, do you? The discipline is PERFECT.
The military brass universally despises Trump and has been refusing to obey the Commander-in-Chief for quite a long time.
We are in the midst of the worst Constitutional crisis since the Civil War.
“There were a few exceptions like Jefferson Davis, etc.”
Well, aside from the poor bastard who was in command of Andersonville, I know of NO Confederate who was brought up on charges and convicted and punished. Of course, the Yankees had no problem at all with the conditions under which Confederate POWs languished and perished at Camp Douglas in Illinois. But, the victor gets to write the histories.
“I support firing this prima donna and shunting him off to a windowless office.”
I don’t know what President Trump is waiting for he has the Authority to fire a General who ignores the orders of the CIC.
President Truman had the guts to fire General MacArthur and that was during a war.
President really needs to get these Generals under control.
What’s he waiting for?
Great info!
What's his feeling about John Kerry?
Stop making sense, as it may only serve to enrage those who do not know their history.
General; Why not ask the people who pay the bills? The General is free with other peoples money just like Congress.
Robert E Lee’s US citizenship was not restored until 1975, by an act of Congress.
Every general officer we have saluted the transgendering of our military.
“It was an act of treason, at the time, against the Union, against the Stars and Stripes, against the US Constitution”
This is the most ignorant and vile thing I have read in the past 36 hours and one of the most ignorant and vile things I have read ever.
And that is saying something.
“We are in the midst of the worst Constitutional crisis since the Civil War.”
I don’t think you’ll get much of an argument against that position.
This is the same guy who felt the need to make some weak kneed apology for appearing at a photo op with President Trump last month.
Funny, I don’t remember any of them apologizing for appearing with Obama.
This guy is a disgrace. President Trump should fire him and the Secretary of Defense as well as any other high ranking officers promoted by Obama as soon as the election is over.
If the good people of this country withdrawal their support for government and country, America is finished, Milley is finished, everybody is finished. The Trump voters are the good and decent people. These people in our government are most unwise.
Where are the treason convictions?
It’s an insult to the memory of the valor and sacrifice of the Union soldiers to denigrate the tenacity and courage of the Southern soldier who opposed them.
Each side fought like demons for reasons they considered righteous and worth dying for. If this isn’t true, the Union soldiers were simply incompetent dolts who were held at bay for years by men with no cause to animate them.
A common theme of the memoirs of the soldiers of both sides was respect for the men they fought, and the desire for healing and forgiveness that the disaster of civil war brings to the survivors.
The General should read some history before he opines on what he obviously knows little about. It’s alarming that somebody this divorced from the concepts of honor and forgiveness, who believes that respect is only reserved for the victors, is in his current position.
I had ancestors on both sides, and I’m certain sure they’d hold these comments in utter contempt.
A fact that it should return to.....an imperial government is what the founders warned of!!!
