If I understand this case correctly, an Indian committed a crime and was tried by the Oklahoma State Courts.

SCOTUS now says that is a no-no. The Indian must be tried by Indian Courts.

A case like this happened in Canada a few years back.

A First Nations teen killed a white woman and FN demanded the young man be handed over to them for to punish as they saw fit.

The Canadian government conceded.
