Statistics can be made to show absolutely anything the compiler wishes. Statistics lie. Such numbers are often compiled by social workers and their agencies both of which have agendas. Believe them at your peril.
True. But, data is important when trying to persuade people or policy makers. It’s not enough to just say: “It’s terrible for kids when their parents separate”. It helps to be able t show HOW it is terrible for them, and for society. And, much is it costing us?
This said, as you suggest, I view all statistics with a healthy amount of skepticism.
