Country group Lady A, which dropped the word Antebellum, from their name because of the word's ties to slavery, has filed a lawsuit against a Black singer who has performed as Lady A for years.

I hope they lose. That’s what you get for catering to the mob.
This other person was using that name.
LOL! What a phenomenal history!
Lady A-hoes.
I agree, but don’t know the legal things involved.
Now wait just a cotton-picking?minute, FRiend from my hometown Chicago!
Also lived on the Southside too.
However love both the Sox and the Cubbies. ;)
Trying to become the new Dixie Chicks huh. I can’t imagine a worse idea than going forward with this idea at this time in history. Not a single bit of good publicity for the group will come of this and they will LOSE.
They stepped in it twice. I hope they go far a trifecta.
They need to drop a few N-bombs and just finish their career off.
Hi. I am a transplant from St. Louis. I have been in the Chicago area for a little over 30 years. I lived in the Hegewisch neighborhood 2000-12, then escaped to Indiana. I still maintain my loyalty to the Cardinals but, since I needed a Chicago team, I had to go with the Sox, for obvious reasons.
Too bad Lady Ga Ga is taken. Lady Gag would be challenged by Ga Ga.
First of all, what is wrong with the word antebellum? It literally means "before the war". You could say that the 1920s and 1930s were antebellum years in America.
Second of all, this spineless so-called "country" music group is a Johnny-come-lately as far as the name goes. The black singer's use of the name predates the "country" band's use of the name.
Sniveling clueless sheeple. So "antebellum" is racist? Yeah right. Just like vanilla ice cream is "racist".
Ebony Magazine: So, what’s the ‘A’ stand for?
Lady A: It stands for Antebellum.
Ebony Magazine: But Antebellum has racist connotations and harkens back to the “good ole days” of slavery! Why would you use that?
Lady A: Yes, but we don’t say Antebellum, just A. A is safe.
Ebony Magazine: That makes no sense if everyone knows it stands for Antebellum! What’s the difference?
Lady A: It’s like the N word, as long as I don’t say the word, I’m safe. Y’all made the rule!
Ebony Magazine: Y’all? Wait! Who’s y’all?
Well of course the Sox should be your team!
Welcome to Chicago...last time I was home, I saw “The Bean.”
Kind of odd but interesting.
:)
Maybe someday you and I can have a coffee together.
The upper South Side seems to really be experiencing a renaissance; there’s the Buddy Guy club, if I remember correctly.
Great news!
Julie
If the country band called themselves trans lady a, they may have a chance.
Lady-A1 says she has been using it longer professionally, but Lady-A2, as I understand trademarked it. Legally they are probably in the right, but in this wokefest environment, it’s just another case of white privilege. Win-Lose.
How far we’ve come. 1969 Woodstock, 2020 Wokestock.
“White supremacists” posing as singers, stealing a black woman’s stage name in the cause of Black Lives Matter. What absurdity...
Governor Lepetomane: Thank you, Hedy. Thank you.
Hedley Lamarr: It’s not Hedy, it’s Hedley. Hedley Lamarr.
Governor Lepetomane: What the hell are you worried about? This is 1874. You’ll be able to sue her!
