I'm in the same boat. I'll probably have to wear one when I return to work. Fortunately, here in Tennessee, I haven't been required to wear one yet in any store that I've gone into.

They will require submission, either voluntary or forced.

The masks are a first step and it isn't that big a deal so it's easier to just go along with it, but then it's mandatory vaccinations, then trans-dermal chips, all for health and safety.

Some day it will be the mark, or we won't be able to transact commerce. We each need to decide when or if we make a stand.

I've always been amazed at that passage of the Bible. When it was written commerce was mostly barter and the transaction unknown except for the two parties involved. How could anyone have even imagined a system that would prevent people from a transaction without a mark? But, now here we are a couple thousand years later and it is very much within the realm of possibility.

Caption on article about author; "Emily Willingham, Ph.D., is a science writer and author of Phallacy: Life Lessons from the Animal Penis, to be published in September 2020 by Avery, an imprint of Penguin Publishing Group.

No comment section available. Probably wise on SciAm's part, imagine the gross death of electrons that no comments avoids. As for Ms Williams, she appears to be much concerned with phalluses, envy much?

I really don’t get the anti-mask bit.

I was an early mask advocate, and incidentally, I believe the third FReeper to support Trump.

Still wearing a mask, every day.

Will, until this disease is kicked.

I remember when “Scientific” American was a real magazine.

Honey child, I am a woman.

I refuse to wear a mandated mask.

I carry one that I occasionally will don for a short while out of courtesy to people who have problems that are not all in their head.

You I would laugh at. And probably point.

When I was growing up we called it pseudoscience.

This doesn’t even rise to that level. Pseudoscience has a certain logic to it, internally consistent with it’s premise. This is political fantasy masquerading as science being given a pulpit in a scientific journal where it should never have a voice. The editors have revealed they are standing naked before every real scientist to ever publish in what was once a revered and valued journal, which has now become as valueless as a weekly fiction tabloid.

They hinder talking and normal personal relationships.

Face masks do hinder and hide non-verbal communication but sometimes that's a competitive advantage. Naturally alpha men wear a face mask: their beard. The face razor wasn't invented until 1847. The survival advantage is to hinder beta males from identifying who knocked up their wife.

It appears that Scientific American is neither scientific or American.

Well, given the circumstances of the quarantine “drought”, with alcohol she could probably trap a mate...

Come to think of it, maybe the whole CoVid quarantine mask spiel is a secret cabal project to allow thousands of wymen like this access to our precious bodily fluids for REPRODUCTIVE PURPOSES!

That would create a super race of Marxist Pillsbury doughboys and girls!

I stopped my subscription to Scientific American when I realized it was neither. That was a long time ago.

I had all of them from about 1937 or so (and scattered earlier) up to around when I went to college, which is when they went to s***…

Mom moved collection to basement, which flooded from washing machine fail...

. . .where everything a man does is related to his alleged desire to get his private parts together with a woman's.

Speaking purely from the species survival viewpoint, exactly what is wrong with that??? Again, from the survival of the species goal in mind, it works a hell of a lot better than getting a woman’s private parts together with another woman’s, or a man’s private parts together with another man’s. Seems there’s something intended about the natural urge of the first but neither of the other two for species continuation, neither of which seem to be a valid means of pro-generation.

There will be a mark. Well stated, BTW.

it is sophomoric BS.

That advanced? I would have been hard pressed to call it Freshman BS. . . Really bad junior high school term paper, is more like it.
