For just the eighth time in the fair's 134-year history, The State Fair of Texas is canceled for the upcoming season. The fair made the announcement on their website Tuesday morning, citing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

When I was a kid I spent one school year in Ft. Worth, TX as my Dad worked at General Dynamics. I remember going to the State Fairgrounds and seeing Big Tex. He did have a slow drawl even back in the late 1960s.
"Howdy, folks! This is Biggggg Tex!"
Looks like Gov Abbott has messed with Texas and has EVERYONE POd at him, now.
Lefties never were going to like him and hes now lost conservatives/his base, with this boondoggle.
May not be NEW, but Fletchers Corn Dogs will still be found in the area (so says the local radio). According to local radio news, Dallas will lose roughly $400 million due to this cancellation, when all factors are considered.
To look on the bright side, the historic Art Deco buildings still stand at this time. No BLM have torched them as yet.
Rick Roberts also reminded that 6 years ago today, the police officers (and one DART employee) were ambushed and murdered on the streets of downtown Dallas.

I think was actually a slogan used by Texas Dept of transportation about not littering on the highways.
Oklahoma cancelled its state fair as well.
I made the mistake of going on school day one year. Heavy mounted and unmounted police presence on the midway after dark. I managed to work my way to behind the police lines and move to the other side of the park where my white skin wasn't as noticable.
