Cancel culture liberals need to leave John 'The Duke' Wayne alone!

My wife Mary has a habit of disturbing my peace by reading me headlines and news stories from her phone that annoy me. Thus, I learned that Black Lives Matter domestic terrorists seek to cancel legendary American actor and icon John Wayne. Outrageously, Orange County's Democratic Party is pushing to remove Wayne's name from the county's airport.

This is ironic because John Wayne played a role in my becoming renowned, loved, and hated for proclaiming myself an "Unhyphenated American."

Decades ago, I awoke to learn that I could no longer refer to myself as a black man. The decree demanded that I refer to myself as an African-American. If I did not obey, fake news media and Democrats would brand me a stupid "n‑‑‑‑‑" disloyal to my blackness. I instinctively knew that their new "African-American" mandate was simply another Democratic Party weapon to divide us from fellow Americans, instilling and entitling us to victim status.

Then I stumbled across a YouTube video by John Wayne titled "The Hyphen," which solidified my commitment to be "The Unhyphenated American."

The Left is no longer targeting just rogue cops and old Confederates. Their goal is to destroy Western civilization. Because only then can they rebuild it in the cold, fascist manner they desire.

So yeah. The Duke will go. And if a year from now the state of Washington has been renamed, I would not be a bit surprised.

The Duke is not going anywhere. Irrespective of if his name is removed from some airport or not.
If even Stalin couldn't make history disappear, how do you think a bunch of idiotic BLM looters will make The Duke disappear in the age of the Internet where nothing can be wiped out?
They remove John Wayne's name from some airport in California? No problem. Some airport in South Dakota or somewhere else will be named after John Wayne.

I am beginning to believe what you wrote.

It is interesting to watch this unfolding civil war. We, western civilization, has made huge efforts in 140 years to integrate the ‘person of color,’ into the United States. Tearing down our monuments and statues is just one example of how much the POC wants to be segregated from the nation.

I am sure some diligent FReeper could put together the price that has already been paid by Western Civilization in the efforts to have the POC walk with us in Liberty.

As surely as POC can rail against the prosperity bought upon their ancestors slave backs, surely we as a whole nation can demonstrate the continual reparations we’ve paid to secure their liberty and Rights?

Starting with the sacrifices of the abolitionists and Union Soldiers through to today I know of no other “race” that has so many truly lay down their own lives to help another. This exercise is one of true historical documentation of the fight for freedom and equality. So much has been already paid and it is best we put together such documentation to answer them.

The very idea their liberty/freedom was paid for with the blood of union soldiers and fellow citizens is insufficient 140 years later seems ludicrous. But history demands such documentation.

As you noted, the Duke will not be erased from the Internet. But he will be taken off the PC “approved” list. And that does mean something. There will be pressure to not show his movies on TV. And Leftists will now feel free to slander him in articles and on the news.

Wayne is a minor player in this current upheaval. But he will take a hit. Leftist pressure is ugly and clumsy. But it works. Consider this. What school board today would name a new school after, say, Woodrow Wilson or Robert E. Lee?

i got my Blu-Ray of "The Comancheros" just last week. I saw the movie for the first time a few weeks ago and just had to have it. It has some of the best western photography of any I've seen (IMHO).

Regarding striking John Wayne's name ... I guess if the forces of Mordor are going to win they get to name things. And if they're not going to win we'd better focus our energies on bigger issues. (another IMHO)

I gotta tell you. A couple of months ago I myself would not have believed what I wrote there (post #3). Back then I saw the protests as mainly protests against police misconduct.

But now there is no doubt in my mind. Their goal is not just to reform the police, but to destroy free speech and reshape society. Perhaps that was not their original goal. Perhaps they only upped the ante when they saw there was zero pushback.

And I don’t see BLM as the enemy (if I can use that word). Yes, they are 90% in the wrong. But something bigger than BLM is the real enemy. And I don’t necessarily mean it’s some secret Soros group. More likely it’s just loosely-organized violent white radicals. After all, those are the guys who are pulling down the statues.
