Gun violence exploded across the city after the NYPD disbanded its anti-crime unit of plainclothes cops on June 15, with three times as many shootings in the last two weeks of the month over the same period in 2019, police stats show.
And the shocking rise in gunfire to 116 incidents from 38 between June 15 and June 2, a 205 percent increase meant scores more victims were hurt or killed by bullets this year over last year.
Gunshot injuries skyrocketed to 157 from 47 in 2019, a 238 percent increase.
With a total of 205 shootings during the month, it was the bloodiest June in 24 years going back to 1996, when the NYPD logged 236 incidents, the department said.
One victim, Jomo Glasgow, 35, a DJ, was gunned down outside a house party on East 49th Street in Brooklyn on June 17 just two days after Police Commissioner Dermot Shea announced he was scrapping the unit, a group of 600 officers tasked with preventing violent street crime.
I feel like we are giving the streets back to the criminals, Glasgows mom, Hazel Thomas, told The Post.
They shouldnt have disbanded it, she said of the anti-crime unit. Whatever the problem they have, address it. But dont disband the unit. Many lives would have been saved. Not just my son.
The unit, once described as elite by mayor de Blasio, has a history of success but also controversy.
Its members have been involved in a number of high-profile police shootings and deaths, including the fatal choke hold that killed Eric Garner.

I imagine Mayor de Blasio will have something to say about this. I’ll just wait for his comment before I come to any conclusions.
Shocking ???? Really ???
Wow.. It’s going exactly as they planned.
The good mayor: “Such an increase is simply a statistical fluke. There is no connection between the two and no cause to be alarmed.”
Next week when the COVID counts go up by 8% or so: “This disaster is a predictable result of Trump’s rallies! Why would anyone support a person who has murdered more COVID victims than were killed in Vietnam?”
I imagine Mayor de Blasio will have something to say about this. Ill just wait for his comment before I come to any conclusions.
+++++
LOL. Right. Im sure youll wait. But just to speed things up for you I will make my Blasio Prediction:
STATISTICAL ANOMALY. Move on. Nothing to see here.
Oh, come on now. Who could have predicted this would happen! /UltraMegaDrippingSarc
The democrat voters deserve the disaster their elected politicians create.
JoMa
De Blasio looking to blame someone other than himself; guess it’ll be Trump again.
Let's see:
Bail Reform--Liberal policy
Emptying Prisons--Liberal policy
Criminal Justice System--Dominated by Liberals
So, even discounting the disbandment of the special unit, it's the fault of Democrats.
The mayor will probable declare that the ‘alleged’ rise in gun crimes is a false rumor being spread by the police union and white racists in general.
“Mad” Tim Sullivan must be happy his gun laws are working as he wanted them to, by disarming those you don’t want shooting your criminals.
We all know democrats actually hate minorities. So what better way to rid yourself of them? Let them kill each other off. Democrats never changed their party or their souls. They just changed tactics.
Maybe Trump should send back the USS Comfort to handle the gunshot and gang violence trauma.
Both the mayor and the governor are mass murderers so why would either one of em really give a good shite.
Gun violence is a stupid liberals statement
How about criminals
So a group of people committing crimes feels highly uncomfortable having police around. They are pleased the politicians defund, handcuff, watch for strict rule violations by them, and finally get rid of police. Also no bail problems and thousands of convicted cons are let out of NY prisons.
Criminals are free to plan and carry out more crimes against citizens.
Then the citizens in polls say they support and agree with De Blasio and Gov. Cuomo and oppose Trump, who wants law and order.
I knew there was something holding this all together: It was all Trump's fault, somehow. S/
So, so glad I don’t live anywhere near NYC. Let’s see, that’s reason number 816.
The Mayor has a lot of funerals to attend soon.(fer sure)
