Navy Bans Personnel From Attending Church
Newsweek ^ | 07/02/20 | MIKE BERRY, ESQ. , GENERAL COUNSEL, FIRST LIBERTY INSTITUTE

Posted on 07/04/2020 1:51:10 PM PDT by fwdude

For the tens of millions of Americans of faith who worship together regularly, the onset of COVID-19 has been a spiritual tragedy. Houses of worship of every faith and denomination have been emptied by government fiat.

...

One person who wants to be in church is Major Daniel Schultz of the United States Air Force. A devout Christian, Major Schultz is active in his church and is a member of the worship team. He attends church each week because he believes gathering with his fellow believers is an essential practice of his faith. Major Schultz is currently assigned to a U.S. Navy command, so when the Navy issued an order stating "service members are prohibited from visiting, patronizing or engaging in...off-installation specific facilities, services or activities...to include indoor religious services," he suddenly found himself unable to enjoy the very First Amendment rights he serves to defend.

This is absolutely maddening. Read the articles for the details. If Trump doesn’t step in directly on this issue, he’s going to lose a lot of military support.

Keep in mind that the Navy is one of the more “gayer” branches of the government. No surprise there.

I at the AF reserve base I work at, they are now only allowed to have “Zoom” services, no in person church attendance allowed.

Does that apply only to on-base services, or any services off base on your own time?

On-base, as far as I know. I do not believe anything has been said about attending off-base church services, although many churches in the area have not conducted any in-person services in quite some time.

the Navy issued the order supposedly out of a desire to restrict the spread of COVID-19. However, the order permits service members to use public transit, visit commercial establishments and even host house parties of any size. Worse still, the order makes no mention of barring sailors from participating in public protests.

“All chaplains are to perform divine service tomorrow, and on every other succeeding Sunday, with their respective brigades and regiments, when their situations will admit of it, and the commanding officers of the corps are to see that they attend. The Commander-in-Chief expects an exact compliance with this order, and that it be observed in future as an invariable rule of practice, and every neglect will not only be considered a breach of orders, but a disregard to decency, virtue, and religion.”

Order of General George Washington June 23, 1777

Pretty sure this article is referring to the FRAGORD from Fleet Forces, which only applies to sailors in the Continental United States whose commands are in Health Protection Condition Charlie (HPCON C). To be fair, sailors are prohibited from doing A LOT of things; the article just happened to cherry pick religious services. Relevant sections of the FRAGORD below:

5.A.7.B.4. (U) SERVICE MEMBERS ARE PROHIBITED FROM VISITING, PATRONIZING, OR ENGAGING IN THE FOLLOWING OFF-INSTALLATION SPECIFIC FACILITIES, SERVICES, OR ACTIVITIES. OBSERVE GUIDANCE PROVIDED BY REGIONAL AND INSTALLATION COMMANDERS REGARDING USE OF ON-INSTALLATION SERVICES.

5.A.7.B.4.A. (U) RECREATIONAL SWIMMING POOLS, GYMS, FITNESS FACILITIES, EXERCISE CLASSES, SAUNAS, SPAS, AND SALONS

5.A.7.B.4.B. (U) TATTOO/BODY ART/PIERCING PARLORS

5.A.7.B.4.C. (U) BARBER SHOPS, HAIR OR NAIL SALONS, AND MASSAGE PARLORS

5.A.7.B.4.D. (U) CINEMAS/THEATERS

5.A.7.B.4.E. (U) PARTICIPATION IN TEAM/ORGANIZED SPORTS

5.A.7.B.4.F. (U) DINE-IN RESTAURANTS (TAKE-OUT AUTHORIZED), BARS, NIGHT CLUBS, CASINOS, CONFERENCES, SPORTING EVENTS, CONCERTS, PUBLIC CELEBRATIONS, PARADES, PUBLIC BEACHES, AMUSEMENT PARKS OR OTHER EVENTS DESIGNED TO PROMOTE LARGE GATHERINGS, TO INCLUDE INDOOR RELIGIOUS SERVICES.

5.A.7.B.4.G. (U) OUTDOOR RECREATION WHERE COMMON USE FACILITIES ARE USED AND IF A
MINIMUM OF SIX FEET PHYSICAL DISTANCING CANNOT BE MAINTAINED.

5.A.7.B.4.H. (U) NON-ESSENTIAL COMMERCIAL RETAIL ESTABLISHMENTS AND SHOPPING MALLS.

5.A.7.B.5. (U) TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PRACTICAL, SERVICE MEMBERS, GOVERNMENT CIVILIANS, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND CONTRACT EMPLOYEES SHOULD MINIMIZE UNNECESSARY IN-PERSON USE OF THE FOLLOWING SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES. IF THESE SERVICES AND ACTIVITIES MUST BE UTILIZED, PRUDENT PRECAUTIONS (INCLUDING MANDATORY PHYSICAL DISTANCING AND USE OF CLOTH FACE COVERINGS) SHALL BE EXERCISED. THE BELOW LIST IS ALL INCLUSIVE:

5.A.7.B.5.A. (U) USE OF MASS TRANSIT (BUS, RAIL, OR FERRY)

5.A.7.B.5.B. (U) AUTO REPAIR, MAINTENANCE, AND ANNUAL INSPECTION.

5.A.7.B.5.C. (U) CURB-SIDE AND DRIVE THROUGH SERVICES

Breath, this is Newsweak.

If this is true. It is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment. If President Trump does not stop this or address it, I will stop supporting him.

After last night’s fiasco at Mt. Rushmore, OKC, and all of the other bullshit that is going on, I am done.

State Governor Mandates Everyone Wear Snorkels In Case They Fall In A Pool

July 4th, 2020

“Starting today,” he said, “All citizens of my state will be required to wear a snorkel at all times, both indoors and out. This will prevent thousands of tragic deaths resulting from people falling in their backyard pools. SCIENCE says we must do this.”

“The Navy issued the order supposedly out of a desire to restrict the spread of COVID-19.”

After spending 2 years on a Heavy Cruiser and knowing the living condition on ships, trying to enforce social distancing on sailors is a joke.

One doesn’t need a building to practice religion. Stay home and read your Bible or get the service online.
