Slavery: What does protesting the past get us?
American Thinker ^ | 07/04/2020 | Mark Andrew Dwyer

Posted on 07/04/2020 11:10:04 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Today's protesters protest bygone times when slavery was legal and was considered, by many otherwise normal people, socially desirable and morally acceptable. They also protest the times of racism and racial discrimination that came after slavery was abolished in the U.S. Those times are gone.

America, in order to make up for the past suffering of slaves, has bestowed on blacks many privileges and entitlements that are not available to all other Americans, affirmative action and protection from so-called disparate impact being examples. American whites have become — as a racial group — the most aracial people on Earth. In predominantly white America, both implicit and explicit discrimination against blacks in admissions, hiring, retention, and promotion has been made illegal. Even vague expressions of perceived anti-black racism, like displaying a rope that some may consider a noose, are being vigorously investigated by law enforcement and — if the evidence warrants it — punished. A privately made statement that could be interpreted by some as racially disparaging or critical of blacks can easily end the professional career of the speaker, particularly if the speaker is white.

Yet the protesters, impervious to our relentless efforts to protect blacks from any form of discrimination, presumed or actual, keep protesting and accusing whites of being the root causes of the wrongs that happened in those past times, even though they and — in many cases — their ancestors did not suffer from those wrongs yet are benefiting from the privileges that were meant to make up for the suffering caused by those wrongs.

No one can change the past, even if the protesters destroy everything that we and our ancestors have built on American soil. America's history is what it is and will stay that way forever.

Well, yes....proving the old phrase ‘useful idiots’ is very much a valid thing.
The Left will do it regardless of what movement wins out too.

I don’t feel bad for foolish black people but, I really grieve for those who are not taking part in this....and, I do believe that those blacks not taking part in it are a majority.

God Bless America.

Make America United Again!

If you look at it another way ...it’s sort of the same as if i had a grand parent or great grand parent who did something inarguably amazing...that doesn’t make me amazing.

I understand.

The difference is expediency. Remember that someone like Michael Bloomberg ran for mayor of New York City as a Republican only because the Democrat field was full. He was always a Democrat, but it was expedient for him to become a Republican. After his term was up, Bloomberg switched to Independent, and then eventually back to Democrat.

Bernie Sanders only became a Democrat in 2016 because the party made him. He switched back to Independent after losing the primary. In 2020, he stayed an Independent the entire time.

Arlen Specter was a Democrat, then he switched to Republican when Pennsylvania changed, then he switched back to Democrat before he died.

Jim Jeffords switched from Republican to Democrat because they offered him some committee chairmanships if he broke the tie and gave Democrats control of the Senate.

Phil Gramm of Texas was a Democrat. When he felt he and they had changed, he resigned his seat and then ran again as a Republican in the special election to fill the vacancy. Gramm felt that the voters deserved an honest choice, not the selfish expediency of a politician.

Something about slavery I never see discussed is that it has existed since the cave man. While wrong, it was an accepted form of subservience and ancient caste systems through the entire World for thousands of years.

Then a new nation was created and later ended the atrocity. This new country fought an awful bloody war so others could be free and enjoy the promise of opportunity. Many other nations followed the example, although there are still some African nations that hold to that ownership concept.

This new nation did some things wrong in the beginning, but it eventually showed the world that no man owns another man.

Why there are so many people of late that hate this amazing nation is a question that needs to be more thoroughly addressed. Bad things happen to all people of all races, ethnicities, sexes, ages, groups, etc. There are just bad humans. We will never be rid of them for so many reasons.

Open and HONEST discussion is the start. No political agendas, no racial preferences, no sex preferences - no preferences at all.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL HAS BEEN AND STILL IS THE SHINING LIGHT ON THE HILL.

I will talk, but will also defend what is right to my last day.
America is the World's last chance to come to its senses.

Yup.
But they don’t care.
They only care about advancing some woke narrative so long as it never gets turned back on them.

So, if we erase everything that connects slavery to the past, what will ‘they’ have to complain about?

It accuses the country (Whites only) of having committed an unforgivable sin for which there is no forgiveness. It can never be washed away. Even after confiscation of all money and assets, the guilt will still remain.

Insanity.

People are no longer taught that the Founding Fathers like Adams, Franklin, and Jefferson understood that the goal of ending slavery had a better chance of happening if the colonies became independent than they would if England remained in control.

It took almost 100 years to happen, but it might never have happened if the New World remained a British colony for another 50 years or more.

History and facts mean nothing to Alinsky Progressives. They have goals and a series of tactics to achieve those goals.

Exactly. We should have no protected classes.p, no special hate crimes. If we just stopped keeping statistics by race, except for health studies, we would be much better for it.
