My father's Dutch side is very short because they were all farmers and laborers. My Dad came here in 1912 with his parents, and two brothers. My mother was born in Canada, but she didn't know anything about her family. She always told us we had no relations on that side.

I joined Ancestry.com last year, and the farther back you go, the more skeptical you have to be, and take other people's hints with a grain of salt. I've found errors in connections because of them. After my Mom died I went to Canada to do research and found her line had actually come from England, and settled in downstate New York. My 5th great-grandfather is a Patriot. I also found out that there is Dutch on her side as well. I did my DNA last year, and was told I'm 59% England, Wales and Northwestern Europe, 35% Germanic Empire, 2% Scotland/Ireland, 2% Sweden, and 2% Norway. Blew my mind. On my mother's side I've been able to go back to the 1100's, but like I said, you have to take it with a grain of salt.
