BALTIMORE (WBFF) -- There's new scrutiny over the role of law enforcement inside local schools and it comes as districts across the country begin canceling contracts with police.
It follows the death of George Floyd and nationwide protests against police brutality and racial injustice with calls to defund or dismantle police departments.
In Maryland, both Prince George's & Montgomery Counties have begun talks to remove armed officers from schools but both districts have tabled any final decisions until the fall.
"This movement is a knee-jerk reaction to the situation Minneapolis," said Jason Neidig, a school resource officer at Aberdeen Middle School in Harford County. "I don't think people have stopped and really thought about what the ramifications may be by removing school resource officers."
Officer Neidig believes removing school resources officers (SROs) could leave students more vulnerable to attacks.
Unfortunately, Maryland has seen its fair share of violence inside local schools. Last year, a staff member was shot at Frederick Douglass High School in Baltimore City and in 2018 a gunman shot a student at a St. Mary's County High School before being shot by a school resource officer.
"The level of safety and security, I think, is going to drop significantly," Neidig said.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!
But that only applies to government run schools, right? Private schools will remain heavily armed and defended, correct?
Absolutely insane.
Any parent that would send their kids to an unprotected public school in this place in this day & age is....well......stupid.
No police in Baltimore schools...what could go wrong?
The left demanded Police in schools due to eeeeeeeeevil white mass shooters, now they hate the Police in schools. Go Figure.
Ya I guess theyd rather have Adam Lanza in their school than a police officer. Strange way of thinking.
One worries, suspects and fears that they know this.
.
Teachers will have to arm themselves, and so will parents when they visit the schools in MD. We could end up with at least half the country owning guns and ‘other’ weapons.
Which will be the opposite of what liberals have wanted when trying to disarm America and repeal the 2nd Amendment.
It will be like the ‘wild, wild west’, again.
In much of MD, government indoctrination centers are equivalent to MD’s own CHOP zone...
More hyper-reactionary, Regressive groupthink. If common logic says ‘yes’, they’ll viscerally react, ‘no’. There is something neurologically or neurochemically wrong with these people. It’s some sort of acual triggers that, when set to motion in a certain order, alter their makeup and turn them into pseudo-humans.
I have to wonder what the high school teachers think of this move.
In MD you are more likely to be run over by a spoiled student driving their new loaded BMW. Then shot with a loaded gun.
That’s fine. BUT when there is trouble in the schools do NOT call on the police to help. Until we give them their wish they will think police will still come. Keep a list of who supports the police and those who do not. ONLY help those that support police. No ambulances. No fire trucks. Nothing but a social worker to those against the police.
They used to call that the inmates taking over the asylum.

If these guys think they have seen “white flight” just wait until they take all the cops out of schools.
Two of the highest crime rate districts in Maryland and they want to remove the police from schools. Let them. Then start burying the dead kids.
White Marxists and black emperors/empresses will destroy anything they touch.
Mass murder free zone, when your kids are cut down look to the politicians who made it so
I am very grateful that I went to a one room grade school & a very small high school.
I got a great education & I was SAFE.
The officer interviewed is from my town and nowhere near PG or Montgomery county insane asylums.
Even so, there are enough incidents so as to need an officer full time.
I imagine BLM instigated racial incidents are going to be very common next school year if they ever bother to open.
