In a move that was long past due, Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder announced Friday the team will undergo a thorough review of the teams name.
The team said it has been discussing internally a name change with the league in recent weeks.
Snyder said in a statement:
This process allows the team to take into account not only the proud tradition and history of the franchise but also input from our alumni, the organization, sponsors, the National Football League and the local community is proud to represent on and off the field.
Head coach Ron Rivera said in a statement it was an issue of personal importance to me and I look forward to working closely with Dan Snyder to make sure we continue the mission of honoring and supporting Native Americans and our Military.
In a separate statement, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed the discussions and said, We are supportive of this important step.
The announcement comes after weeks of pressure for the team to change it.
Two of the teams biggest financial partners signaled they wanted a name change. FedEx, which owns the naming rights to the teams stadium, recently revealed it informed the team it wanted to see a new name at FedEx Field. Nike, the leagues official uniform supplier, did more showing than telling when it wiped the teams products from its online store.

They can call themselves the Oklahoma. Problem solved.
They’ve been known as the Deadskins by their fans for many years now. Maybe that should be made official.
How about the Washington Generals, maybe the perennial punching bags for the Harlem Globetrotters will give the name up to the perennial NFL punching bag?
1. It honors the Tuskegee Airmen and the 322 Fighter Group, perhaps the most successful air combat group of the USAAF in World War II.
2. It honors blacks who truly did their service for the country.
3. It's something that even the US military is proud of.

In the Fed Ex and Nike corporate world American Indians are not smart, or warriors or brave so NFL teams must be renamed to reflect the corporate thought. Some possible names they may like might be globalist gazillinairs, pink pussies, the kneeler, anti-American travelers, etc.
“Saving a lot of hassles” is what got us to this point. While people were avoiding “hassles,” the left has destroyed the common culture and ideals that we all shared as Americans. But sure, capitulate. You might want to buy some kneepads, as that will certainly take less effort than standing up for what is right...

Some ideas from longtime DC sports fan... Washington Red Tails (for Tuskegee Airmen), Red Hogs (honoring legendary Hogs of 1980s), or Commanders (could put faces of presidents on helmets). Monuments or Warriors ok too. Anything but Redskins. Its time for a change.
Let them lease Ted Nugent’s Craveman stick figure as the new team mascot........
“Washington Wussies.”
That would work for me but I had an alternate spelling in honor of the Washington Post.
Good one!

Only cause they stopped selling “redskin” gear in the NFL store...
