In a GOP Senate, the purpose of the filibuster is to protect senators from voting against the wishes of their lobbyists on substantive legislation. Mitch McConnell uses the filibuster to keep legislation from getting passed by claiming he doesnt have 60 votes ... when in reality he wouldnt even have 50 if there was no filibuster.
This enables 51-59 establishment GOP jackasses to tell their voters that they support something ... while never being in a position where they have to cast a vote on it that matters.

Excellent analysis of the purpose of the filibuster. Removing it will radically upset the dynamics of the Senate. The unintended consequences are bound to make even Democrats mad.

The Senate is going to be a bloodbath in November. GOP -6 to -11.
