CHINA is flexing its muscles with a series of war games in the South China Sea in a show of force aimed at reinforcing its bid to dominate the disputed waters.
China, which claims sovereignty over large areas of the South China Sea, has fortified numerous uninhabited islands there.
Zhou Zhirong, a flight commander of the army aviation brigade involved in the training, said: "In the exercise, we conducted the training through day and night, set multiple kinds of targets on land, at sea and in the air, and stressed on the tactical coordination in continuous strikes by multiple projectiles.
"The gunship pilots have greatly improved their combat effectiveness in such an actual combat environment."
India is also in the midst of its own territorial dispute with China in relation to the disputed border region of Ladakh, which earlier this month saw brutal clashes resulting in the deaths of at least 23 Indian soldiers.
In a clear indication of the seriousness with which both Tokyo and New Delhi regard the situation, both nations sent vessels to take part in the exercises in what is one of the world's most important shipping lanes.

India needs reliable allies. The US is too busy ripping itself to shreds. And, if Biden were to somehow win, forget it, game over man.
China is the enemy of the world. Sink some Chicom ships and make it a good game.
I don’t see it really happening, but China is surrounded by powerful nations that do not like China — India, Russia, Japan, the US. And China is internally fragile in quite a few ways. They may think distracting their population with “foreign adventures” is a good strategy, but I think China will be devastated and looted if they step out of line. Sucks to be them. I cannot envision a good outcome for China under any set of circumstances.

China is taking over eastern Russia through immigration, both legal and illegal.
Wasn't always that way, but is now. When I was a young man, an elderly co-worker of mine was a Russian immigrant. In conversations, he told me he was an immigrant from China. He lived in a town full of Russians, in China, when the Japanese invaded. Spent WWII in a Japanese prisoner-of-war camp. After being freed, he made his way to the U.S.A. The Soviets stripped all the Japanese assets out of China. Now China is taking resources from eastern Russia.
