Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, warned members of Congress on Monday that the U.S. could reach 100,000 new COVID-19 cases per day if the country does not get a handle on the pandemic.
Speaking before the Senate health committee, Fauci said the country is heading in the “wrong direction as the average number of daily cases continues to go up.
“We’re going in the wrong direction if you look at the curves of the new cases,” said Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. “We need to do something about that and we need to do it very quickly.”
The U.S. is now recording 40,000 new cases per day, surpassing previous records set in April when New York was the epicenter of the outbreak.
Now outbreaks in Texas, Arizona, Florida and California account for 50 percent of new infections in the U.S.
Fauci stressed that the U.S. can’t just focus on those four states because outbreaks there "puts the entire country at risk."
Fauci declined to estimate potential COVID-19 deaths when pressed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), but said the situation is “going to be very disturbing, I will guarantee you that because when you have an outbreak in one part of the country, even though in other parts of the country they're doing well, they are vulnerable.”

I just thought it was a really good interview that everyone should hear.
I am in Allegheny County, PA where Pittsburgh is located.
Since the pandemic began we’ve had a grand total of around 200 COVID deaths. Half of them in nursing homes.
Our county population is 1.2 million.
Let me repeat that. 1.2 MILLION.
Yet local officials just closed down our bars over a “case spike” of 96 on Sunday. Sheer lunacy.
But no one needs to shut down BLM/Antifa riots, protests and pride parades in order to control outbreaks, right Dr. Fraud?
Fauci has actually never even practiced as a physician. He has a medical degree and possibly a license but he’s been a bureaucrat from day one.

I agree with Fauci. Things need to change and I am hoping most people are starting to get the message in the southern and western states. If we want to keep the economy open, practice social distancing, wash hands, don’t touch your face and wear a mask indoors in case you have the disease and don’t know it.

Based on the health experts who have learned about this disease and what has gone on at the bars in Texas, I am going to have to agree to disagree with you on masks.
Again, it is simple advice, it meets public health, helps to protect lives and it gets our economy back up. I don’t have a big problem with it.

Miami also has always had a relatively high number of deaths. Nothing close to New York but compared to most of the country.

My wife and I just finished a vacation this past Sunday.....
We called it our Covid tour..... bars and beach on the panhandle of Florida, Mobile AL, New Orleans, etc.....
No problems and feel great! Just utilized minimal precautions....

You do realize POTUS has worn a mask when necessary and POTUS does not discourage their use when public health advises one to be worn. His press secretary has as much yesterday.
This is about public health, in my mind, and not politics.
Well, the good news is that, at 100,000 cases a day, we’d reach herd immunity by 2029.
If you can’t see at this point that this is nearly ALL about politics then we can’t help you.
