Fourth of July revelers have been advised to stay away from Los Angeles County beaches as coronavirus cases skyrocketed.
The temporary closures affects all beaches, piers, parking lots, beach bike paths, and beach access points beginning on Friday at 12:01 a.m., and lasting through 5 a.m. on Monday, L.A. County officials announced.
Fireworks displays are also off-limits over the weekend in an effort to prevent gathering.

Anyone still believe that all of this -- the continuing panic porn which creates increasingly irrational fear of the flu into its fourth month; the increasingly strict mandates to keep people isolated and distrustful of one another; the incessant daily new diktats from local politicians and petty bureaucrats to stoke anger and build depression among Americans -- has anything at all to do with "public health"? Or has it finally sunk in that the Democrat/Left must prevent President Trump's re-election even if it means destroying our Republic and harming innocent American citizens.
And all the while the GOP caucus and the federal government -- the last line of "civil" defense against tyranny -- remains mute, unwilling and ineffective to honor their oath and confront this assault by an emboldened and desperate domestic enemy.
Re: Do they just assume that someone with pneumonia had the flu?
Not that I know about.
The rule of thumb is that flu and the common cold cause (or “precede”) at least 35% of annual pneumonia cases.
So far in 2020, the “reported” pneumonia death toll is 134,000 and the flu death toll is 8,300.
Flu deaths are just a tiny fraction of pneumonia deaths, which is not the way that CDC tells state medical examiners to report COVID and pneumonia deaths.
Re: “Texas COVID deaths have also exceeded 2018-2019 flu fatalities”
However, compared to the 2017-2018 flu season, COVID is far behind the Texas flu fatalities.
Texas - 2017-18 Influenza Deaths - 3,516
Texas - 2018 COVID Deaths - 2,416
The cases didn’t skyrocket, Trump’s rally did. They want to stop his campaign by hurting the economy any way they can.
Go read what I posted again - I did not say Texas, I said Dallas County.
Well sure Billboy, just have Uncle Bob drive 35 miles to the beach, drop off the family and then drive 35 miles back home...It’s only a 70 mile round trip...
So simple...yukyuk
Oh yeah, and then blockhead Uncle Bob will need to go back in the afternoon to pick them up....Only 140 miles....Gak!
I think the lifeguards should be attacked and their lifeguard stations should be torched!
Re: “I did not say Texas, I said Dallas County.
Yes, I agree.
Unfortunately, I am going to need a graduate course in Computer Science before I can click my way around the Dallas County Health Department website.
I can get to the Influenza page, but there is nothing on it except more subject tiles, tiles which lead to more blank pages, which have still more subject tiles.
So, I used the CDC state data for Texas to make my point.
Since our two flu seasons are just one year apart, I am pretty confident that the Dallas County share of influenza fatalities is roughly proportional in each year.
Yeah, I’ve been monitoring it since this all started and they continue to reorganize and relocate everything on a regular basis. It can take me a while to locate stats that I *know* are there, let alone ones that I’m not sure are there. It’s like they have a new person redesign the site every two or three weeks.
I wouldn’t be so sure about it being proportional - DC influenza stats (when you find them) are not all that consistent in tracking with state averages IIRC. The only thing they seemed to track in past years was *maybe* weather patterns, and I didn’t save them more than a year or so because I mostly didn’t care. I can point to the immediately previous DC flu season which was considered ‘bad’ due to ineffective vaccine and say that COVID-19 is definitely worse than it by a significant margin (I want to say 20-25% or more, but I don’t have the numbers in front of me right now) so it’s not ‘just the flu’ if comparing it to a ‘bad’ season.
Of course if your metric for ‘just the flu’ is the 1918 Spanish flu, well... :P
