As face masks become a societal norm, many people are speaking out against those who are choosing not to wear them, and some critics say that wearing a mask may determine how smart you are.
John Lundin, a self-described environmental activist and author, recently tweeted, A mask is not a political statement. Its an IQ test. His tweet was met with many comments of support.
A recent Gallup/Knight Foundation poll that asked, In the past 7 days, how often did you wear a mask or cloth face covering outside your home? showed that 30% of high school graduates, 41% of college graduates and 46% of postgraduates always wear masks.

Without the emotional security of their "face covering", these still-frightened mask zealots would remain locked away -- isolated from society -- which would retard the normal spread of the Chinese virus and extend the infection rate well into next year and beyond. By venturing out and in being in contact with other humans the mask zealot's completely ineffective "face covering" (well, the way nearly all of them select, apply/fit-test, wear and maintain their mask is no more effective than would be carrying a handkerchief in their back pocket to control a sneeze or a cough) they help spread the virus and build widespread immunity ... which is a very good thing.
So carry on, dear mask zealots. Continue to perform this valuable public health service even though you remain ignorant of doing so. Cheers!
Because hours of wearing a mask forces you to inhale CO2 as well as any bacteria or virus (which would normally be harmlessly expelled), these “smart” people are actively risking hypoxia and the loss of brain cells, as well as increasing the concentration of harmful bacteria and virus.
So what is “smart” about these idiots? Maybe this will increase the Democrat voter base?
Only wear mask in clinic or hospital.
and if you are male and have most any arrangement of facial hair the N95 masks (as well as all other types) will not fit correctly and are worthless - they do not protect you nor others, but serve only as a reminder not to touch your face.
God gave me the sense to follow the suggestions of many well trained medical folks.
I guess if you want to trust your lungs to “his plan” that is cool.
That is what is great about our country—we have the right to choose.
Good luck.
Wouldnt the viruses emitted when a person exhales, coughs, or sneezes tend to be trapped in water droplets significantly larger than a single virus?
Fashion mask-No
Surgical Style mask-Sure, for 20-30 minutes till it become waterlogged
N-95 with exhalatory valve-Absolutely not. The valve in unfiltered.
My point is that a mask, even if waterlogged, doesnt need to trap a virus sized particle if the virus is trapped in a water droplet. My question then becomes, When a person exhales, coughs, or sneezes, do the viruses float free in the air or are they trapped in water droplets which are much larger than the virus?
I can certainly believe that, if an infected person wears a mask long enough to get it waterlogged, a sneeze or cough would spread the virus.
Best recommendation for surgical masks in a non sterile environment is to change it every 20-30 minutes. Are you doing that?
Surgical style masks are fine in a sterile environment, not a Walmart.
Please give the snark a rest ... it's too clever by half.
But you *are* highlighting where conservatives get into trouble and why we have such trouble winning national elections: Too many get so caught up in their righteousness that they forget people matter; and that they matter as much as principles and ideals.
Wearing a mask in an elevator to calm the fears of a 75 year old woman is not being a "mask zealot". It's being a decent human being ....something conservatives who use phrases like "mask zealot" would do well to learn and remember.
"People matter" very much to me which is why I am so critical of those who, for no valid reason other than to maintain a high level of increasingly irrational fear, dehumanize people by requiring them to hide their identity and by forcing healthy people to appear as though they belong in an infirmary. (I acknowledge there are circumstances -- such as the one you cite -- that must be addressed as they may arise.)
My use of the term "mask zealot" to describe someone transfixed by the current mask craze (perhaps only temporarily although I anticipate this mask-wearing fad will extend, by design I've concluded, to the first Tuesday in November) is a perfect description of a person who, still frightened by a virus which death rate continues to plummet as it runs its normal course into the fourth month, demands that everyone in every situation wear these ineffective, unhealthy often-contaminated disguises at all times.
That you are offended by the term "mask zealot" being applied to you, my considered advice is to stop behaving as one by demanding conformance in the face of conflicting data and by disparaging those who have seen through this ongoing politically-inspired and controlled chaos. Wear your face doily if you must but declaring that doing so makes you "more decent" and "more caring of others" (that is, more "righteous" to use your derogative) than someone like me who, having worked with PPE for more than half a century sees the fallacy being promoted incessently that "wearing a mask stops the spread of the virus", and who has observed the devastating effects on society caused by forced mask-wearing, is arguably dishonest ... and it is in some respects cruel ... cruel to those who have been led to truly believe that selecting, applying/fit testing, wearing and maintaining a mask the way most everyone does protects them from contracting and spreading the germs. This is simply not so.
Now, back to my first cup ... Cheers!
“Wearing a mask in an elevator to calm the fears of a 75 year old woman is not being a ‘mask zealot’”
Well, my mom is 96, is immuno-compromised, won’t wear a mask, and thinks that people who do are bat-shit crazy. She lives her life as she always has. If a 75-year-old woman in an elevator is fearful, she needs to get her heart right with God.
2 Timothy 1:7 - For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
I have no problem wearing a surgical type mask indoors and in public. It is not something I like but it is something I do because it might help others, and might help myself. I don’t need anyone telling me what I should do.
Masks are for the old, weak and STUPID
I’am none of the above!!!!!!!!!!
Stop The Mask CULT By Any Means Necessary

I am not really old, I am certainly not weak. And I am far from stupid.
But go ahead and wonder why some places get through this, and others have a difficult time.
