Washington Governor Jay Inslee faulted President Trump for failing to urge Americans to wear masks amid a surge in coronavirus infections in more than two dozen states, likening Mr. Trump's resistance to masks to Alabama governor and segregationist George Wallace's opposition to integration.
"Right now, we are in an urgent national mission, or should be, to mask up," Inslee, a Democrat, said on "Face the Nation." "And the fact is that Donald Trump is for masking up like George Wallace was for integration."
Inslee said universal masking is crucial to reopening states' economies, and added that "all of us should be on that bandwagon right now."

you might as well be breathing through a chain link fence.
No, that's not true. Virus particles are not the issue.
but are not wearing and changing gloves after every interaction
Red herring. Has nothing to do with whether wearing a mask is helpful.
Numerous public health officials refused to condemn the protests.
True, but another red herring. Many protesters had masks. Even some rioters had masks to help conceal their identities. Has nothing to do with whether masks are useful or not.
Please explain why the Springfield salon had no transmissions with most wearing masks. Please include the explanation of the church choir practice in Washington (no masks, no touching, adequate spacing, large indoor space, 80-90% transmission).
Yes. You wearing a mask does not protect you if you are not infected, but if worn by someone who is infected, and they cough or sneeze the “loop mask” will catch X% of the DROPLETS expelled (see ***), and the droplets are larger than a mere virus and a good % do get caught in the mask. The mask is for the infected, to protect others.
That was what I learned in Korea in the 1960s. The children wearing masks to school in the winter were usually the children with a cold, wearing a mask to protect others.
HOWEVER, we have been told another lie - watch out for the asymptomatic - as if (a) the asymptomatic can infect you and (b) you don’t know if you are infected and asymptomatic. But the truth is the asymptomatic do not pass the infection, because (a) with no symptoms they do not expel the virus in a cough or sneeze, and (b) they are asymptomatic because their viral load is insufficient to make them ill, and insufficient to effect others by others catching their mere breath.
So, yes, if you KNOW you have the virus, and must go out, wearing a mask CAN/MIGHT offer some protection to others.
Maybe the behavior controllers just didn’t want the truly infected to be the only ones known to need to wear a mask and then shunned by everyone else; so they wanted everyone to shun everyone - KEEP YOUR DISTANCE, YOU “may” be infected and not know it!!!!!!!! THAT was really the meme they used to control everyone about masks. It was not scientific but the fear worked.
****(too many “science reports” use the size of the virus/virion, but the virus/virion is not expelled free and clear on its own, it is in a mucus droplet many times larger than the virus/virion - the masks have to catch the droplets containing the virus/virion - when they do, yes, the inside of the mask is then infected - notice in hospitals even some of the best masks are disposed after a single extended use)
Has was on CBS FTN yesterday and didn’t get asked about CHOP, he only was asked leading questions about Trump.
“FluSurv-NET data shows there have been nearly as many influenza-associated deaths to date in 2020 as there were in all of 2019.”
Im sure you are a conservative in many regards.
But your reaction to the mask debate is dripping with Leftist smugness, and intolerance of opposing views.
Isnt it obvious by now that not everyone agrees about mask wearing?
Life is full of risks.
The Constitution was designed to protect the rights of individuals to deal with those risks as they see fit. A liberal believes the Founders got this wrong, and that citizens should comply with one-size-fits-all consensus responses.
When liberals are prevented by the limitations of the Constitution from getting their way, they always resort to false appeals to science, straw man arguments, and name-calling.
Life is full of risks. We choose to deal with them in different ways. Your way is not the ONE. THING. that will save us. The scientists you choose to believe are not the only scientists.
That is why in the USA, we dont govern by committees of bought and paid for scientists.
In a Constitutional Republic, my opinion carries the same weight as yours, regardless of how many scientists you can line up who agree with you.
Remember, I listen to doctors and scientists too - just different ones - perhaps not as well paid as yours.
Appreciate the reasonable reply..
The challenge, as I understand it with masks is this. Your mask protects me (and others). My mask protects you (and others). That’s because the main function of masks is to reduce spread, not to protect the wearer.
So, we’re in a situation where MY health risk depends on what OTHERS do. And if the others take a “I’m not going to care and will do what *I* want to do” approach, the virus is going to continue to spread..and spread..and spread. Because there are a lot of asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic cases out there, in addition to the obvious symptomatic ones. But even that..you have sore throat. Stuffy nose. You go out anyway. Surprise, it’s COVID. And you just infected dozens and possibly hundreds of other people if you don’t wear a mask. THAT is the problem with the “you do what you want, I’ll do what I want” approach.
The USA has the highest number of cases in the world today. Highest deaths to-date. Highest deaths per million. An economy in shambles. Millions of unemployed. Contrast that to Hong Kong, which is a lot more densely populated. Everyone wears masks. Deaths to date? SEVEN. (USA - 128,000 plus). Deaths per million? Less than 350X ours. Pretty simple to see - masks work to reduce spread.
One would reasonably think all of us here - or at least “most” of us - would want to do everything humanly possible to get our economy back on track, and get rid of the virus to the largest extent possible.
No-one (rightly) complains about “no shirt, no shoes, no service”. Or about smoking in restaurants (can’t do in most places). That’s because those things put OTHERS health at risk. Not YOUR health. So why on earth are so many of us pushing back on the ONE thing we can to do reduce spread and get our economy back? I for one am pretty tired of watching my portfolio drop by big chunks, recovery by smaller chunks, back and forth like a yo-yo. And if we don’t get this fixed, I TRULY do not believe Trump is going to win in Nov - because the virus is “THE” issue to most of the people outside the FR bubble that I’ve talked with. If the virus and economy are not fixed by November, there is little chance (keeping it real, based on “normal” people I’ve talked with) that we are going to win in Nov. Don’t we want to win? I sure do.
Appreciate the reasonable reply..
Thanks!
I understand the argument - that individual freedom must be sacrificed at times, because one persons assertion of freedom can eclipse the freedom of others.
A great example of this is that we cant simply choose which side of the road we feel like driving on. We must all agree on a side (right or left, it doesnt matter) - otherwise, nobody is free to drive. Anyone who is not being stubborn will concede the point. And we dont need experts or scientific data to prove it. It is obvious.
There are hundreds of smiler cases - in which reasonable people will agree - and not because a panel of scientists or bureaucrats said so - but because some things are intuitive and obvious.
The problem is that there are also hundreds of cases where reasonable people can disagree. To some, it is a no-brainer that raising the minimum wage is good for the lower income tiers. To others, it is a no-brainer that it is BAD for those same people. Economic experts and PhDs abound, who support both sides of the argument.
I say mask-wearing is one of these debatable issues.
With debatable issues, not all agree that it is debatable (especially Democrats) so they resort to calling people idiots or whiners and they clam that science is on their side.
That is why there need to be elections and voting, as opposed to panels of scientific experts dictating policy.
Highest number of cases, according to whom?
Highest number of deaths, according to whom?
Who is generating all these statistics, and exactly how accurate are they?
Pardon me for being cynical, but certain elements from what are supposed to be responsible institutions have been wrong about quite a lot since this whole thing began. Furthermore, many of these same institutions have been caught cooking the books to further some political agenda on more than one occasion. Credibility is being destroyed on a daily basis by those who are seeking something other than to inform.

Why would you assume the baseline should be 2018 instead of 2019? Couldn’t 2020 also have been an easy year like 2019?
Same here. All the same people has multiple BLM posts, pride posts, and mask shaming posts. Fortunately, Virtue signal June is almost over.
Well, I do suppose the “books could be cooked”, but that would require a pretty large (maybe even huge) number of people to be “in on it”.
The data I’m quoting is from https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ but it’s very similar to data from any other source, of which there are many. I haven’t checked Johns Hopkins recently, but I’m sure it’s similar if not identical since all the data comes from the health agencies of various cities, states, etc and these sites just aggregate and display it.
