Homeowners association tells Florida man to take down Blue Lives Matter flag
WFLA8 Tampa ^ | 6=25/20

Posted on 06/28/2020 3:30:11 PM PDT by Impala64ssa

As a Pasco County Sheriff’s Deputy, Sean Kennedy spent 25-years following the law and enforcing it. Now he’s found himself in a position where he feels he must break the law. More specifically, a by-law for his community association.

Kennedy lives with his wife and children in the Foxwood subdivision in New Port Richey. It’s a deed-restricted community where lawns are neatly mowed and cars are parked in garages.

Over Kennedy’s garage flies a blue lives matter flag, the homeowners association recently told him he had to take it down.

The flag looks just like an American flag with the exception of black stripes and a blue stripe for law enforcement and a red stripe for firefighters.

“People don’t really understand that flag. It’s nothing to do with police,” said Kennedy. “It’s police that have been killed. The meaning of the flag is to support police that have been killed. Not police that are active right now working. “

Neighbor James Adams doesn’t understand why the association is all of a sudden asking Kennedy to remove the flag.

“I understand that there are certain guidelines and bylaws that we have to follow,” said Adams. “But that’s a little much.”

Kennedy believes he understands the timing. A member of the association told him someone complained. “I think it’s self-explanatory what’s going on in the world.,” said Kennedy. “The hatred of the police because of one horrible action by a guy in Minnesota just tarnishing everybody.”

Kennedy says a number of neighbors have weighed in and support his right to fly the flag. He says he has no intention of removing it.

“I’m not taking it down. It’s something I’ve worked for for 25 years and I believe in, so, and it’s definitely not racist, it’s definitely not hatred,” said Kennedy. “It’s a tribute to law enforcement officers and firefighters who died.”

8 On Your Side called and e-mailed the management association that sent the letter and are awaiting a response.

Man, you are one deluded dude.

The lot is also big enough for a 4 stall outhouse but I wouldn’t freakin construct one in my front yard.

And what in the world does “self esteem” have to do with wanting the investment in your home to hold it’s or even possibly appreciate in value???? And boy are you naïve to believe that your property values going down will necessarily translate into a lower appraisal and a smaller tax bill.

We have a small enough community that over the last 20 years every single person living in this neighborhood has served on the board at least once. Not real likely that some rogue homeowner is going to shoot a neighbor/board member.

My home is a bit more than a third of my net worth and it’s taken 15 years of very hard work to never miss a payment and retire my mortgage in 180 months.

The area covenants I enforce are reasonable, agreed upon in unanimity by it’s residents and assure that no crazy d’bag can come in and hammer the property values of ALL the good people who live here on a whim.

Man this is a residential neighborhood. No freakin farm animals, any shop must be attached to the residential structure, no barns....gardens, yes.

I have a BS degree in Ag Business so I have lived in my share of country and farm areas. This is NOT one of them.

Some of the ordinances are City/Lake as building at lease 75 feet from the water and no unattached out buildings, most however are subdivision covenants.

I dont want to live next door to a d bag with trash in his over grown yard either. but its a pole barn. Whats its purpose? how bad can it be? is he opening a repair shop? is it in the front yard? are the lots so small it would look awkward? And are you going to sell your home anytime soon? Id say you are a real cynthia. You brag about “ being on the board” and “home values”. do you keep a yardstick and a chainsaw in your trunk ?

Got a spare 200K to defend yourself against their lawyers?

Didn’t think so

At least the HOA puts all the rules down on paper

Code enforcement and a crooked DA can make up any law they want or enforce it anyway they want and who they want against. And it is perfectly legal.

I am going to take Mark Twains advice now concerning arguing with a fool.

Have a pleasant remainder of the evening.

On what are the appraisals and tax rates based then?

On whatever the county appraiser feels like basing them on at any given moment.

We already have colors to chose from. Earth tones about 6 colors to chose from. These are single story single family homes from 2000-3300 square foot. Two car garage but can add golf cart garage at the time of build. Two golf course, 3 pools, 3 activity centers, restaurant and tons of other amenities. The monthly HOA fee is not bad, but considering I’m saving about 5 grand from my Maryland property taxes and state tax savings. A few hundred a month for HOA fees are a bargain. Now water and ground monthly maintenance is pricy and not part of HOA fee. I will admit. But it sure is beautiful.

Other way around in my experience. Go check out reddit’s r/JustNoHOA to see HOAs doing it the other way.

My wife says you don’t know what you are talking about

LOL

Our HOA has 3 rules and they are to protect our property values.
And we all happen to be far right wing nuts.

I read it like the guy was apologizing for flying the Flag.

He made a point that it didn’t represent the Police who are out there risking their lives.

How people Like you didn’t read that into his Comment is ridiculous. The comment I quoted made it sound like he was making excuses for flying that Flag.

He didn’t need to justify flying the Flag to the A hole Homeowner Association Nazis.

Pissed me off then and pisses me off now that people here didn’t see that obvious point and they’re just itching for a fight because they missed it.

Don’t go accusing me of disrespecting the Police my Friend. You can take your slanderous rant and shove it. It has no basis in reality.

All over society all you have to do to get your way regarding someone else’s action is to (a) complain, and (b) have a politically motivated politically correct complaint. Corporations, schools, associations, sports teams and all kinds of other outfits do it, with impunity - the complainant is always “right”.

They don’t base it off of the houses that sold the year before, and adjust for condition, size, accessories, age?

And no protest procedure, where the homeowner can get the evidence package that the appraiser used, and challenge it?

I own properties in an HOA and never have any issues

And I own properties with an HOA and have zillion of issues with the local yokals who think they are some sort of HOA cop. And those guys cost real money. Not some $50 non compliance fine from some nosey Nancy who really can’t do anything anyways.
