This week Sen. Kelly Loeffler (RGa.) described a handful of protesters carrying guns in public as "mob rule."
Is Loeffler the rare conservative politician with a history of calling for expanded gun controls? That doesn't appear the case. Here's a tweet from her from January expressing appreciation for National Rifle Association President Carolyn Meadows:
Great to be back in Atlanta with @NRA President and fellow Georgian, Carolyn Meadows. Truly appreciate her work in Washington and around the country to protect and defend our 2nd Amendment Rights. #gapol
What could possibly make a pro-gun-rights senator suddenly take such a dim view of citizens' rights to bear arms? Watch this Wednesday segment from the Fox show America's Newsroom, and the answer becomes apparent pretty quickly...
As you can see, Fox interviewed Loeffler amid a montage of young, armed black people protesting police abuse in Atlanta, where a cop recently shot and killed Rayshard Brooks. Another Fox host, Sean Hannity, reported on Tuesday that there were "at least three men brandishing long guns" near the Wendy's where the incident happened.
Hannity, Fox, and Loeffler all represented this as evidence of the dangers of defunding police. Indeed, one young man with a gun (who seemed perfectly polite and respectful) told Fox he was carrying a 12-gauge shotgun because he didn't believe police officers would protect him, adding that cops were not going to be "allowed" in this space. Asked what he'd do if police rolled up and ordered him to drop his weapon, the man insisted he had the legal right under the Second Amendment of the Constitution to bear arms: "And at no point will I allow my right to be disturbed." Good for him!

Gretchen Whitmer called a handful of men with long rifles a threat; did “Reason” object to that?
It’s my understanding that several armed blacks in the area of the former Wendy’s restaurant confronted whites, telling them that “you’re not welcome here anymore” (paraphrase).
I do not know if these are the same armed individuals but if they are this is not “peaceable protesting”.
I think her comment about mob rule had more to do with the fact that those carrying the guns were blocking the public road next to the Wendy’s and making some drivers turn around. If they were not trying to control the road or accosting or assaulting anyone (or their vehicles), no one would be paying any attention to them.
....the long gun carriers showing constitutional knowledge our Republican side is failing to do hence why those men are there carrying guns in the first place.
Blacks were preventing anyone they didn't care from entering the area,
These Reason morons seem to be ignoring that in this vicinity, armed men had been running a roadblock/checkpoint. Even KLB and the AJC acknowledged it. Thats not a peaceful protest with 2A rights. If the guys who protested 2A rights at the Virginia statehouse had set up a similar roadblock, these same morons at Reason would have been calling for air strikes. Whether the three guys Loeffler was talking about were involved in the above isnt known, the fact remains that it was in the same general time frame and vicinity as events reported on below.
The next day, a couple in a car driving on University were forced to stop by what was described as a mob, a police report states. Several in the so-called mob are armed. Someone reaches in, slaps the driver. Someone throws a rock through the window. The driver gets slightly injured.
Hours later, a man gets shot in the leg. Also in the area that night, my old AJC buddy George Chidi, who is an activist and a journalist, got punched out and sent to Grady Memorial Hospital by a group of men.
A young fellow with his shotgun pointed skyward stopped cars, glanced inside, and then determined who could continue or not. Black motorists went through. White drivers had to U-turn.
Maybe because she's a rrrrrrrracist? Eh, Reason? Is that what you're getting at?
her
“Gretchen Whitmer called a handful of men with long rifles a threat; did Reason object to that?”
Secondly the men involved were black, part of a peaceful protest against the brutality of police actually shooting back at some one shooting at them. In the Michigan situation, the men were mostly white, protesting against being confined to their homes, even though they weren’t sick and hadn’t committed any crimes.
Even health experts have claimed the two situations are completely different. One is completely justified, the other a public health menace. /s
adding that cops were not going to be "allowed" in this space. Asked what he'd do if police rolled up and ordered him to drop his weapon, the man insisted he had the legal right under the Second Amendment of the Constitution to bear arms: "And at no point will I allow my right to be disturbed."
The yute expressed intent to block and oppose police activity and to defy lawful orders. Which part of that would a reasonable person characterize as "peaceful"?
What has gone on in the vicinity of that Wendys bears little relation to what you describe. See my previous post.
This was news? I thought it was a campaign ad for Loeffler.
According to FReepers in the Georgia Jogger case anyone who was confronted like that would be right to charge at those carrying the firearms and try to disarm them...
Yes! You beat me to it, showing you are a wise and well informed person. Like me.
She deceitfully threatened with (paraphraed) --they do not represent the best of our people in Michigan and their actions and attitudes will probably cause me to lengthen the shutdown further.
She did so hours later! Like a prune faced schoolmarm who says no recess for all kids now that a bad boy has defied her and broken a school rule.
Add this to the fact that these men with long guns have also set up road blocks and declared it a "Black Only Zone", stopping white motorists and forcing them to turn around at gunpoint, including one incident where they punched the driver and smashed a window. Two additional people have been shot at the site and numerous people assaulted, including an APD officer. And REASON Magazine says "Good for him"!
Read this first hand report from the AJC, normally a liberal rag, and tell me this is not mob rule. I'm amazed they allowed this to be published...

Vote for Doug Collins over Karen Leffler this November.
A "protester" does not carry a gun and say that NO POLICE are allowed in the zone! This was "mob rule" by gangster wannabes! Everyone who is an anarchist is a protester according to the media.
Wonder what the owner of Wendy’s thought.
Why would anyone want to go to a parking lot with a burned out business???
