Tucker Carlson misreads Trump’s pre-election strategy: Tucker is missing the important choice Trump is forcing on Americans
American Thinker ^ | 06/26/2020 | Andrea Widburg

Since 2020’s craziness began, Tucker Carlson has been brilliant. He’s talked us through speech-killing political correctness and “cancel culture,” a health panic that leftist politicians have used to break Trump supporters, and racism as bad as that during the Jim Crow era only with the races reversed. Carlson is always unafraid to tell the truth.

When the riots started, between his job at Fox News and his home base in Washington, D.C., Carlson has had a front-row seat for the spectacle of leftist protesters systematically destroying property and America’s heritage. It is a demoralizing show.

This demoralization was front and center in Carlson’s monologue on Thursday night. He opened by saying there’s a good chance that Trump can lose the election, making Biden president. (Were that to happen, I believe America would become the first country ever knowingly to elect to its highest office a man with dementia.)

Carlson’s conclusion didn’t arise because the polls show that the basement-dwelling Biden, who’s trotted out every few days to prove he’s still alive, is soaring in the polls. After all, voters remember 2016 and Hillary’s lead. Carlson did observe that the Trump team is worried, but that wasn’t driving Carlson’s pessimism.

Instead, what concerned Carlson is that the Republicans have been supine in their response, first, to the lockdowns and, second, to the violent protests leftists have brought to America’s streets. He noted that Republican politicians were caught flatfooted because they are so naïve they can’t believe that the lockdowns and the riots are a planned and systemic attack on America’s conservative voters. They have therefore stood on the sidelines, he said, abandoning Americans to the mob.

To illustrate, Carlson played a disturbing call a panicked mother in Fredericksburg, Virginia, made to 911 when the mob trapped her in her car,

‘Those who can’t see the parallels to four years ago are blind because it’s the exact same situation’

2020 is exactly the same electoral situation as 2016...? except for the contingent of elderly voters, Trump’s strongest cohort, who have passed away these four years, and except for the new crowd of first time voters, who typically skew left and who are highly motivated against Trump, yeah, I can see how you could think that...

If this “strategy” was working, we’d SEE massive gains of support for Trump pretty much everywhere, red and blue states. There would have been overflow crowds in Tulsa.

I feel what Trucker is talking about, that nothing is being done to quell the unrest. Yes, you want the public to see the choices, but there is a time to act and I hope it is soon. People should now know the choice and if Trump doesn’t act then he will seen as ineffective. And if the Republicans don’t act they too will be seen as feckless and weak. If the tide goes with the rioters and the corporations and city administrators and senators and governors and police and sport figures join them then the public will think it is all legit. The water is rising and trump has to pull the plug on all this nonsense. Otherwise, America will drown in the chaos and the Dems will come in with a dictator to violently suppress the riots and lay out the blueprint of the socialist order they want.

“I think Tucker’s wrong. Trump is not silent because of fear or exhaustion. Instead, he’s pursuing a deliberate strategy. Whether it works is another thing, but there’s a strong rationale and intelligence behind Trump’s response to both the virus and the riots.”

I agree 100% on this. Trump is letting the country see what is going on.

We don’t need a Kent State. Trump goes in there with the guard and killed someone, then it’s on him.

The mistake is assuming that just because people know what the Democrats are doing is wrong, that they will won't vote Trump out, just to make it all go away.

RE: I feel what Trucker is talking about, that nothing is being done to quell the unrest.

HERE’S ONE THING WE OUGHT TO BE PREPARED TO FACE:

If you want to quell the unrest You CANNOT avoid VIOLENCE and perhaps a Kent State University style shooting that will kill more people than what happened at the university in 1970.

There will be condemnation from the usual suspect and “I told you so” gloating from the Tien An Men butchers in China.

However, remember this, after Kent State, President Nixon won a LANDSLIDE re-election victory in 1972.

Yeah, and because the covid virus. If people were conspiratorial they’d say the covid was designed to kill Trump supporters.

Tucker, talk to a Donald Dem.

One can explain to you what you’re missing.

The population doesn’t understand that this is a local issue. They are screaming for leadership and hes not articulating anything. Running a 2016 style campaign won’t work.

“Tucker’s point precisely. He’s right.”

I agree and the election hinges on the economy-always does-it needs to comme back strong in Q3. In Jan I would have said Trump was a shoo in-now Tucker and WSJ have it right-as evidence by the more predictive betting odds, see here https://www.realclearpolitics.com/elections/betting_odds/2020_president/ the shame of it was that until the riots Trump was still ahead in the betting odds but his “you loot , we shoot” and doing nothing was the wrong Parscale/Kushner approach -that’s exactly when he nose dived in the betting odds-this is uphill battle now and Brad Parscale with his foolish “ we have 1 million ticket request” in Tulsa a city of 400,000 was over promising and under deserving -Get someone in who knows how to run a positive campaign-We can’t sit around and just say that Trump will pull off another miracle as he did in 2016-Biden’s people know the states Hillary ignored and won’t make that mistake, he will pick a woman of color as VP to get out Black vote, we need to help campaign and pray. Trump needs to sound positive notes in opposition to the left-MAGA did that in 2016

Trump was still ahead in the betting odds but his “you loot , we shoot” and doing nothing was the wrong Parscale/Kushner approach -that’s exactly when he nose dived in the betting odds-this is uphill battle now

Yes people will blame the Democrats, but if Trump can't stop it, people know that at least if Trump is voted out, the Democrats will "Call off the Dogs".

That is why the "Let It Burn" strategy is such a disaster.

RE: Tucker, talk to a Donald Dem.

What is a Donald Dem and are they numerous enough to make any difference in 2020?

That’s a fair analysis.

However, I still feel it’s a tactical mistake on Trump’s part. I’m afraid we have too many in our population who are too STOOOOOOOOPID to pick-up on those nuances.

Unfortunately you are correct, our population is uneducated, and doesn’t understand that the president is not responsible for local law enforcement.

He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. If he slams down these libtard brownshirts scumbags and one of them is severely injured or dies, then the Demonic Party has their next martyr for their cause. The corrupt Enemedia will claim it's Trump's "Kent State", etc.

I think Trump is correct to slam these scum down where he can (i.e. on federal monuments) and leave the Demonic Party to stew in their incompetence and enablement of their hand-picked destructors. He offered help to these "leaders"... they declined it. Eff them and their dumbass citizens that voted them into office...

FN follows the money as celebrities can be expected to do.

FN cannot afford to aggressively help clean up deep state corruption and end up relying on reporting about garden shows to sell its high dollar commercials as a consequence.

So FN plays its viewers like PDJT plays the Democrats.

Regarding PDJT’s response to Antifa anarchy, as suggested after PDJT first started making changes in DC, consider this analogy.

With expert “car driver” Trump in the driver’s seat, many of us ordinary citizens in the back seat have been getting a little bit “car sick” at times.

Send “Orange Man Bad” federal and state government Democrats and RINOs home in November!

Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress and state government leaders that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping SARS-CoV-2 will effectively give fast-working Trump a “third term” in office imo.

What Carlson didn’t mention is that 60% of Fredericksburg’s citizens voted for Hillary. It is a leftist town.

I find that amazing. When I went to DC to attend President Reagan's inauguration in 1981, I had to stay in Fredericksburg, 50 miles south of the District, because there were no closer accommodations. It seemed to be a rather sleepy and very Southern town. My motel was on Jefferson Davis Highway and I even saw a Bonnie Blue Flag or two while driving around.

Bureaucrats and lobbyists moving in from DC may have changed its culture politics.

“You can’t win by appearing to lose.”

President Trump is not “appearing to lose”, except to those who believe the fake news polls.

To me it looks like winning.

The Democrat run cities and states are suffering deep trauma at the hands of anti-American domestic terrorists, and the Democrat politicians are enabling it - cheering them on - revealing themselves as liars and fools.

True, Republicans at the federal level are doing little to stop it - just witnessing it like the rest of us.

But as the author rightly points out, the voters are getting a vivid live-action demonstration of what another Democrat presidency would lead to - and it ain’t pretty.

These fake news push polls are an attempt to demoralize pearl clutching Trump supporters - but it won’t work because Trump supporters are rock solid.

Any Democrat strategy of trying to undermine Trump support is a non starter. Does anyone really believe that Joe Biden will steal away disaffected Trump voters? Does anyone know of a single 2016 Trump voter who is even considering that?

People who voted for Trump in 2016 are proven independent thinkers. They’ve already proven they don’t go for Democrat race-baiting and identity politics. They have already proven they don’t fall for fake news lies, fake science fear-mongering or deep state hoaxes and coups. They have already proven they don’t care if busy-body urban dwellers and self-important celebrities think they are “deplorable”.

Trump’s voters aren’t going anywhere - certainly not to Biden!

No, the Democrats will not to strip away any 2016 Trump voters -

Their only hope is is to polish up the turd that is Joe Biden and make him appear so inspiring and and so ‘woke‘ that all the Democrats who stayed home for Hillary Clinton come out in droves for Joe Biden.

To be sure, Biden is not nearly as shrill and unlikeable as Hillary Clinton, so he may well be more of a threat.

But stealing away 2016 Trump voters? No way.

Fox News this morning was all doom-and-gloom. They brought in Chris Wallace to explain why Trump is losing and reported how Wall Street is bracing for a Biden presidency.
