We are seeing jurisdictions everywhere imposing mask bans at a rate that approaches the number of bars being threatened with liquor license revocation for failing to enforce social distancing. If that sentence seems complicated, then you are beginning to appreciate just how confusing all the arguments are about face coverings. After all, we have N95s, surgical masks, homemade cloth masks .. and the classic train robber bandana. Just for good measure, as I wore my cup-style dust mask on my last pass through Costco, I saw staff members wearing required face coverings that came from lathe section at Woodcraft.
It should be intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that these masks are not all identical in their intended use and possible function against viruses. .. The bandana blocks the good guys from seeing who the bad guy is. In both cases, breathing around them is very easy, and aerosols aren't blocked.
...
I wore surgical masks daily for 36 years as an anesthesiologist. Their purpose was to reduce the chance that I would infect an open wound with bacteria from my mouth. ... If staff who are working outside of the immediate sterile field do not wear masks, there is no increase in wound infections.

The outside world is the safest place you can be. The state of Florida has zero cases of COVID-19 that can be traced to outside transmission. During the day, solar UV kills all viruses very quickly, and there's always enough air movement to disperse aerosols, making them non-infective. .. six-foot spacing doesn't help

Caregivers in a high-intensity environment should have all the fitted N95s they need. Beyond that, it's time to recognize that the only person who should be wearing a mask is the Lone Ranger.

CBS This morning showed a family where thy all got infected. As with many of these Hispanic families they all share a tight space an the party of 20 relatives in a small room all hugging ad kissing and sneezing and coughing for 6 hours, well you guessed it, on sick person infects all the rest. Just like meat packing plants etc.
It’s not rocket science. The mask wearers cannot breathe through the fabric alone. So they inhale a mixture of stale air inside the mask and air sucked in from around the edges of the far-from-airtight sides of the mask. They then exhale the air, part of which stays inside the mask and the remainder of which is exhaled out the sides of the mask. Not much protection from this, unless the wearer is a sneezer. The wearers also have to breathe more to adjust for the oxygen deficit, which increases the exchange of any germs. But the masks make people feel safe and virtuous, so we are all forced to wear them.
“The economy needs vaccines.”
The common cold is due to coronavirus (20%), rhinovirus (10-40%), RSV and paninfluenza (20%), other viruses (10-15%), unidentified viruses (20-30%). There is no vaccine for the common cold.
HIV is a virus. The scientific community has been working on a vaccine for nearly 3 decades and billions of dollars per year are spent on HIV/AIDS vaccine research. Dr. Fauci has been in charge of this effort. So far — no vaccine.
Influenza is caused by a virus. There is an influenza vaccine developed each year. Current effectiveness rating by the CDC for the 2019/2020 vaccine is 45%.
An effective vaccine may be needed by the economy. However, we have to fact the very real possibility a vaccine will not be developed for Covid-19, or any vaccine developed will not be very effective. Currently government, industry, the medical community and the media seem to be proceeding under the assumption a highly effective vaccine will be developed quickly. There seems to be no planning for the much higher potential there will be no vaccine.

Did you miss the part where I wrote that I dont care. You are free to do whatever you want. Have a ball.
You project my fear. Where did I ever say I was afraid. What is the matter with you people.
I will write it again: I dont care what you do.

I agree, everybody is different in their opinions on this. I am outdoors a lot on my 13 acres but only wear a mask when required at the grocery store. I have a deviated septum and find it difficult to breath. I handle that by using a cloth mask a letting it slide down from my nostrils thus enabling me to breath easier. Its manageable folks. We just have to use our gift of imagination.
Go for it. No harm in trying. Ive been seeing articles saying a vaccine is around the corner from a lot of places. I wonder how long it will be before even the preliminary results are in. How long does it provide immunity from SARS-COV-2? There are a lot of variables, so we will see.
I hope they do find a safe and effective vaccine soon. Im just not relying on one before I decide to pursue my before lockdown life. I know my choice isnt for everyone. I have family and friends so scared that they are in hiding and have been for nearly 3-1/2 months. They havent set foot in even their grocery stores, yet they complain about the quality of the produce that is selected for them.
I have a nephew who hasnt been out of his house all this time until recently, because he believes everything he sees on the TV news. For his first ever time out of the house, he agreed to go to a bar for a bachelor party for one of his dearest friends who is getting married tomorrow. Unfortunately, my nephew is out of the wedding party, because he came down with a sore throat 4 days after the bar event. He tested positive for CoVid 19. Hes had a run of aches and chills, minor cough, no fever, and seems to be doing ok still.
He did everything Fauci told him to do. He stayed inside his air conditioned home for months on end, only going outside to check the mail, or to take an occasional walk through the neighborhood just the past couple of weeks. Im presuming he didnt wear a mask at the bar, but I suspect he tried to maintain distancing as best as he could.
I wonder if staying inside all this time has depleted his immune system to a degree. He doesnt have a bad case of this, but he did have enough viral load to test positive for it. Since he has no fever, I guess he will have to take at least two more tests to see if it has finished running its course through him.
Exactly.
Here is brief interview with Biden saying people should wear masks out in public. The moron is constantly adjusting his mask and it even falls below his nose while talking..
They could have but unfortunately perception is working. Heck even Abbott is closing bars at 12 today. The media sure knows how to hound republicans until they do what they want.
They give people respiratory diseases.
It's true that billions of Asians are likely not wrong. However, correlation doesn't mean causation.
Democrats want more people to spread the disease, so they can use it as a big issue in the election.
Has anyone recently found a spot to order the N95’s ?
They’re intended for psychological effect, not medical.
You see? There you go.
Hold your water, son.
It's a little early to say what the ultimate effect of that might be. We've been told that the initial shutdown was to flatten the curve. It didn't mean we would have fewer infections, just spaced out. We've assumed lowering restrictions would lead to more infections.
Let's also remember that their numbers are still much better than, say, the New England states.
The infection demographics are changing, moving toward younger patients. If the effect is herd immunity with few deaths, will you still whine?
I have very mild asthma. Made it less than ten minutes at Church on Sunday.
I plan to do a little experiment. The particle size in microns for the virus is about the same as wood smoke.
Go light a campfire with all the different fashion masks and take a deep breath.
I have an old N-95 I found in my shed. I’ll try it with that too.
If you can find an N100 or N95 with exhaust valve, then you won’t have that problem or have the glasses fog up. I still pull mine up for a breath every 10 min or so ...
