What good do the masks do, really?
American Thinker ^ | June 26, 2020 | Ted Noel

We are seeing jurisdictions everywhere imposing mask bans at a rate that approaches the number of bars being threatened with liquor license revocation for failing to enforce social distancing. If that sentence seems complicated, then you are beginning to appreciate just how confusing all the arguments are about face coverings. After all, we have N95s, surgical masks, homemade cloth masks .. and the classic train robber bandana. Just for good measure, as I wore my cup-style dust mask on my last pass through Costco, I saw staff members wearing required face coverings that came from lathe section at Woodcraft.

It should be intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that these masks are not all identical in their intended use and possible function against viruses. .. The bandana blocks the good guys from seeing who the bad guy is. In both cases, breathing around them is very easy, and aerosols aren't blocked.

...

I wore surgical masks daily for 36 years as an anesthesiologist. Their purpose was to reduce the chance that I would infect an open wound with bacteria from my mouth. ... If staff who are working outside of the immediate sterile field do not wear masks, there is no increase in wound infections.

...

The outside world is the safest place you can be. The state of Florida has zero cases of COVID-19 that can be traced to outside transmission. During the day, solar UV kills all viruses very quickly, and there's always enough air movement to disperse aerosols, making them non-infective. .. six-foot spacing doesn't help

...

Caregivers in a high-intensity environment should have all the fitted N95s they need. Beyond that, it's time to recognize that the only person who should be wearing a mask is the Lone Ranger.

A cloth mask is about as effective at stopping the virus as a chain link fence is in stopping a dust storm..

Masks are nothing but a sign of your obedience to tyranny..

Personal choice to wear a mask is fine..

Government mandating healthy people wear a mask can be medically dangerous (increase the risk of infection, breathing issues for asthma attacks, allergies, hypercapnia, re-breating your own exhaled CO2 ..).. and .

The written US Constitution is not repealed.. >> shall make no law abridging the right of the people to peaceably assemble...

"What good do the masks do, really?"

They indicate ready compliance of the sheeple. A badge of good hope.

I Have sleep apnea so I hike outdoors as often as I can. Now the Audobon is requiring masks when hiking and that is counter-productive for me.

They must work though. All those protesters and nobody is getting it.

Or they all got it and, because they are young, are asymptomatic. How do we know?

But that would mean you would have to contact trace and wear a mask.

None of you want to do that.

So, there is your answer.

Maybe you should consider not leaving the house.

So there is your answer.

My mask is my ticket into the grocery store. And the liquor store.

No mask, no entry.

That’s the one and only benefit of my mask.

The masks everyone is wearing are at best 50% effective against bacteria in a grocery store, or any store. Viruses are so small they can get through easily but then the amount of virus “hanging” in the air flow inside is extremely small. Masks are also bacterial concentrators and rebreathers. They help the bacteria stay in contact with your respiratory system. Police officers in general didn’t wear masks before the scamdemic and vaccines are hit and miss. One variant of the coronavirus is a primary cause of the common cold. Do we have an effective common cold vaccine?

“The economy needs vaccines.”

Never happen. We need herd immunity. If the lockdown demonstrated anything, it’s that this virus won’t disappear.

Thus if masks are effective at anything, they are effective at prolonging the pandemic.

There’s a ‘tell’.

Wearing a mask is BS. Stand in your bathroom after a #2. Put a mask on. Can you still smell anything. (I bet you can)

Virus’ are quite a bit smaller than bathroom smells..

If they mandate masks, they get the 1 finger salute and a shout out to the Karen’s ...

But when you say you want numbers such as those in Korea, Japan, or Taiwan—take a look at the steps they take.
Telling the truth would be a good first step.

None of the talking heads can be trusted to tell the truth.

*The economy needs vaccines.*

If you think an effective and safe vaccine is coming before another year goes by, I urge you to consider that we do not have vaccines for most viruses out there. To my knowledge, we don’t have a vaccine for SARS nor MERS, and this SARS-COV-2 is similar to the first SARS.

People are being misled by Fauci AGAIN and are placing some false hope in some future vaccine that may or may not be effective. If you notice when Fauci talks about things, he’s starting to catch on to the careful phrasing that he needs to use, so that he can continue his time in the limelight. He isn’t helping anything. He must have taken a different Hippocratic oath. His recommendations have harmed a LOT of people.

What?

I am not talking about the media. I am addressing their results.

You want to have your narrative. That’s fine, I guess.

I leave the house every day. You seem to be looking for a reason to be angry.

Not me.

Make your choice and live your life.

Your argument is pretty weak. Those who might have an issue with masks because of medical reasons is such a small number as to be insignificant.

But we agree—chose to wear a mask or not.

“I will write it again: I don’t care what you do.”

Perhaps, but you care what we think.

That is a tell, otherwise you would STFU.

There is no debating this topic with you, so support compulsory masks and find yourself downrange with the rest of the useful idiots.

I don’t care what you do. I think a lot of the “logic” here is flawed.

Many folks on FR think if you disagree with A, then B.

And that is not true. You say that if I don’t agree with you, I am an idiot. That assumes that your stance is not idiotic. I never suggested your stance was good nor bad.

I merely said that your arguments are pretty weak when you look at the facts. You used minor, insignificant, exceptions to suggest that your view is the only valid one. I use arguments based on easy facts to obtain.

But I never say you have to follow my thoughts or you are an idiot. Yet, you assign that to me.

Your way is Stalinist. Mine, libertarian.

Good for you.

I saw they are starting a public test, of a vaccine, in South Africa, right now.
