At the very least, have another vote before a knee jerk reaction.

Don’t make this Flag “controversy” the only reason you wouldn’t move to the South.

I am fairly new to the State of MS, having moved her 14 Months ago. My Wife’s Family moved her to semi retire back in 2005, so I was going back and forth from CA all that time.

Since I am not a native of MS, I don’t have the same loyalty to the MS Flag design as some here do. If they decide to change it, they can replace that part of the Flag with a Magnolia Tree, or even better a Gadsden Flag.

The Flag will become Mississippi’s version of New Coke while a whole bunch of MS Houses will still fly the original...

Unfortunately we are living in a world where everything is Political, everything. The 24/7 DNC Media continues to fan the flames instead of reporting the News, so it has lead to this. I don’t see that changing until the end of a Shooting War.

We have been a “civil” Civil War for decades. Now we are moving on to something else.

Therein lies the advantage liberals will always have.

They will just keep voting until they get their way, and once they get their way, there is no turning back.

If the politicians don’t have a spine, they will cave on more stuff later.

One reason we did not move to Texas, for example (and that would have been my first choice) is that we did not like the long term trend in property taxes (won’t bore you with the details, Texans know what I am talking about...).

We are very comfortable where we are (way out in the boonies with a lot of land) so for us a move is a _big_ deal, not to be taken lightly, and not to be made unless we are confident the political leadership will be on our side when push comes to shove.

"ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICANS" and cowards Tate Reeves, Delbert Hosemann, and Lynn Fitch know that if they put it to a state-wide vote, they'd lose.
That's WHY they want to do it in one week by the State legislature.

May they all rot in hell !

Why doesn't Massachusetts get rid of the Indian on their state flag? Massachusetts colonists killed thousands of Indians in King Phillip's war, and forced or sold those who survived into slavery. Link

But Massachusetts elects people like Ted Kennedy and Elizabeth Warren. And Harvard names Warren a professor of color. What was I thinking?

Texas was on our list, but it makes no sense for Retirees unless you are Wealthy with a lot of Income.

The Property Tax System in CA is much better financially than it is in Texas (Thanks to CA Prop 13). We have friends in Texas and know the situation. For the most part Housing is affordable to buy, but you can pay up to 4% of Assessed Value and your Property is reassessed every Year. That is crazy...

In MS you get huge break on Property Taxes if you are over 65.

We are not 100% sure if we will buy a House here. For now we are renting. I decided to wait until after the Election before we buy. While staying in MS is the probable choice, here is a slight chance we may end up in Idaho. My Wife’s Brother and Family live near Portland Oregon, so we could end in SW Idaho which is close enough to go see them on Visiting Day at the Gulag.

If they want fairness, why don't they remove the statue of the Grand Kleagle in the Ku Klux Klan, Robert Byrd ?
He was a recruiter.
He was openly using the N-word all over Washington.

Thing is, I have not seen armed patriots fighting back ANYWHERE, not in Mississippi, not here in my Sweet Home Alabama. I keep wondering when the tide will turn. We just keep losing.

My property tax in Texas is well below 2% of assessed value. The yearly reassessment part is crazy, as you mentioned. If the percentage increase in tax rate is limited by the state, the county or city tax assessment boards simply increase the assessed value on your house. I fear what may happen next year because people are now paying insane prices for houses because the interest rates are low. Consequently, they can now afford to pay a higher price for a house than what it has been selling for before.

That’s what they said back in 2001.
When all the other southern states were bowing down to BLM,
MS held a vote. And keeping the flag won by a huge margin.
Keeping the flag would win again.

That's WHY "ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICANS" will NOT allow a state-wide vote on changing the flag to be held.
Because it would NOT pass.
And those stinking coward don't have the backbone to stand up against those rioters.
We should recall every one of those cowards.

We paid 1.25% on our House in CA based on the Value when we purchased the Home. 1% limited by Prop 13 and .25% added to it for Bonded Indebtedness the Voters approved.

The Appraised Value can only increase by a maximum of 2% a year under Prop 13.

CA Voters never met a Tax Bond they didn’t support.

I understand that in Texas the Tax Rate on a Home can vary substantially from County to County.

It was voted on in 2001. Keeping the flag won 65% to 35%.

I think right now people feel as though this is more like extortion. A “Do as you are told or we cancel you” proposition.

While people outside the state may think it’s no big deal, they might think differently if they are told they must get rid of something they voted to keep.

If they come for Mississippi now they can come for other states too.

Not a fan of referendums for voters...that’s why we have elections. Elected officials should do their job. If we’re going to do that, why have a representative republic. Just open everything up to a “national” vote...now...where have I heard that before?
