The Lost Causers need to get over the fact that they lost.

You mean “lost causers” and recently attacked figures like Washington, Grant and Francis Scott Key?

They don’t call the GOP the Surrender Party for nothing. The revolutionary left is on the march and attacking us from sea to shining sea. Sadly much of the GOP has assumed its usual doormat position while our American heritage is destroyed.

New York is named for a duke of york who was instrumental in British slave trade.

Well then time for a name change there, too.

I no longer have a dog in the fight as I have moved to another state. The CBF was placed in the MS State Flag in 1894 to honor the 56K Mississippi men that died during the Civil War fighting for the State of Mississippi. They were ordered to fight by the State, not the Confederate Government. The largest expenditure of the Mississippi budget in 1866 was for wooden legs for the men that came home disfigured. This CBF was put there in honor of those men, most were not slaveowners that suffered losses not only in manpower but in damage done by the Union Armies. Many black legislators in Mississippi in 1894 also voted for this flag. The State of Mississippi chooses to remember the men that fought for the State of Mississippi and not forget them or put them in some museum and the current flag honors those men that sacrificed for the State. People that don't understand this are ignorant of history and spew the pablum given by liberal teachers that continue to vilify the men and women that stood against the Federal government. People seem to seize upon the slavery issue but ignore the plethora of other reasons for the South to want to leave the Union.

Mississippians chose to keep the respect and honor for those men and not forget them as have many other progressive states.

There are no clean hands.

Anyone who claims to be more virtuous than others is a dangerous sociopath.

York, England was the site of a terrible massacre of Jews in the 12th Century.

Why don’t they just go all the way and burn Mississippi to the ground? I mean, don’t these people want to DESTROY this country? Especially the South.

No, and it sucks. It wasn’t that long ago that even in the North, there was a live-and-let-live attitude about our Confederate history down here. Subs named after Lee and Jackson plying the seas right alongside ones named after Washington and Jefferson and Simon Bolivar and King Kamemehaha (sp?) and George Washington Carver...and nobody cared.

The levels of intolerance on FR toward Southern heritage really appall me sometimes. We’ve been warning you that they’d come for your statues of Grant and Custer and Chamberlain after they got done with our statues of Lee and Stuart and Davis and you cheered them on instead. Well...sucks to be right.

No. The current flag $ucks. I've always thought it $ucked. The Confederate battle jack may be "heritage" for some, but it has, rightly or wrongly, been co-opted by Skinheads and the KKK. It's the same reason Buddhists and Hindus no longer use the Swastika, a benevolent symbol until 'ol Toothbrush Face co-opted it.

>>>We strongly considered moving South when we retired to get away from the crazy politics here.
However, it looks like the politicians have gone wacky in the South—nowhere to run these days<<<

Despite this Flag controversy, Mississippi is the Freest State in the Union. We moved here from CA. The only “issues” of concern are the Bugs and the Weather. Since God invented Window Screens and Freon, we can deal with it.

Even the so called Free State of Texas refuses to allow their Citizens to carry a Gun without a Permit. Not a problem where we live. My Gun goes where I go. I will only be getting a Permit so I can Legally carry in Reciprocal States.

If you won’t move South to live as a Free Man, Idaho or Wyoming might be the way to go.

Well it appears last time they had a vote on it, the vast majority disagreed with your sentiment.

I am watching and waiting—to see which states (if any) have politicians with a spine.

it was in 2001. Blacks didn't care one way or another. The proposed flag design was far worse than the new one they're proposing now.

I don't like the Confederate battle jack in the corner any more than I like the British flag in the corner of the Hawaiian flag. It just $ucks as a design.

Anywhere the Ms Flag is banned, if I were Govenor, would be banned from receiving funds or support from Mississippi.
Every day they refused to fly the Mississippi Flag, if they were a State Organization, they would be fined to the maximum amount the law allows.

We should remove them with force if they don’t go away.

If they try to burn Mississippi to the ground, they're likely to find out just how many Mississippians are arm and are concealed carriers.
Personally, if they want to see something burn, I'm all for tying them to a stake and burning THEM to the ground.

That exact attitude gave us what we are witnessing today.

Lots of us said they wouldn’t stop with the rebel flag and here we are.

But you cannot make them see the connection.

First they came for the confederate flag but I didn’t care because I wasn’t a supporter of it. Then they came for Washington, Jefferson and Francis Scott Key... Now what?
