It’s not patriotic it’s a commie anthem.
Oh, I forgot. Just what are their core values? They certainly don't align with the Conservatives'.
Pro sports had better shape up or they'll go the way of Aunt Jemimah.
Woody Guthrie’s “freedom highway” was said to obviously mean the road to socialism.(review in the Commie rag Monthly Review, posted online May 1, 2011 for a book by Will Kaufman, Woody Guthrie, American Radical , 2011.)
Here are a few lines:
“Soon he was writing a regular column, Woody Sez, for the Peoples World and later the Daily Worker, both published by the Communist Party USA.” and ... he told Daily Worker readers that I seem to have been born a shade pink...
Over time, Guthrie became closer to Communist Party activists and began a serious but frustrated study of Marxism. He had trouble with the more theoretical material, and once scribbled a note in his copy of Lenins Theory of the Agrarian Question, wishing that he could make all the thoughts of Marx and Engels and Lenin and Stalin and Wilkie and Roosevelt and Earl Browder fly down and roost in my brain.
But despite his difficulties, Guthrie was committed to infusing his work with Marxs critique of political economyin his copy of Capital, he wrote, Will memorize contents in a week or so.
.
.... despite the aw-shucks persona, he took his political learning seriously and was moving toward a sophisticated analysis of social reality. More than simply portraying the squalor and brutality of life under capitalism, Guthrie sought to expose the real dynamics of the system and give voice to the experiences of all sorts of human beings caught up in its vast productive apparatus.....

No thanks. We can do without Commies and their songs.
Do not get spun up this is a BS league they are what is called a development league. In other words this league is for people who either never made it to the pros or in some case never made it into college soccer. Often times the players are former high school stars. We tried to build a developmental team locally for the Marines and local high school kids to be seen by college coaches. We applied with the UPSL and were accepted but could not get local financing. All that is required was $5K per year for fees and travel expenses. NPSL falls below the USPL which is way below the USL and MLS. If they have 100 fans they are considered big league LOL!
No refuge could save the hireling and slave / From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave ,
Obviously, this lyric would be anathema to a mindset that requires kneeling and submission — like a slave.
I prefer this version by Claude King
This Land of Yours and Mine
Claude King
I have seen the warships on Manila Bay watched the sun a setting on the way
I’ve sailed the seven seas I’ve crossed the Great Divide
There’s nothing like this land of yours and mine
There’s nothing like this land yours and my land
From the New York harbor to the Frisco Bay
Up to Mississippi cross the wide Missoury
There’s nothing like this land of yours and mine.
But I really like the chorus to YOUR’E A GRAND OLD FLAG by George M. Cohan.
I guess America, The Beautiful would be a bridge too far! SMH
Wait. People in Oklahoma go to see semi-pro soccer? Sounds like an afternoon in Hell.
Commie song
We sang it anyhow in the early 60s in class
I know this came up a few years ago but it's no surprise it has returned in the current climate.
In America today, the word 'slave' is a synonym for "African-American" and is the exclusive property of that demographic. Thank you public schools and the teachers unions.
An imadined dialogue:
Person One--Aesop of fable-fame was a slave.
Person Two--I didn't know Aesop was black. How cool."
Person One--Spartacus was a slave and led a slave revolt.
Person Two--"Spartacus was black? Why didnt they get a black actor for the movie?"
Person One--St. Patrick was a slave.
Person Two--"I didnt know St. Patrick was black. How cool."
Person One--The word 'slave' is derived from the word 'slav' as they were once the most common source of slaves in the Mediterranean world.
Person Two--"So the Slavs, you know, the Russians and all them, used to be black? What happened to all those original black Slavs, wiped out by racist whites?"
Helter Skelter may be their best candidate for a replacement.
Maybe just leave America instead.
Soccer is the downfall.
This Land Was Made for You and Me.
That’s not politically correct anymore. This land was not made for you and me, it was stolen by you and me — that’s the new orthodoxy.
So, I’d say this song is cancelled.
:..this land was made for you and me...”
I have always like the part but it just smacks of Manifest Destiny! See here:
“The history of the United States is a history of settler colonialism the founding of a state based on the ideology of white supremacy, the widespread practice of African slavery, and a policy of genocide and land theft. Those who seek history with an upbeat ending, a history of redemption and reconciliation, may look around and observe that such a conclusion is not visible, not even in utopian dreams of a better society.
“That narrative is wrong or deficient, not in its facts, dates, or details but rather in its essence. Inherent in the myth weve been taught is an embrace of settler colonialism and genocide. The myth persists, not for a lack of free speech or poverty of information but rather for an absence of motivation to ask questions that challenge the core of the scripted narrative of the origin story.
“Woody Guthries This Land Is Your Land celebrates that the land belongs to everyone, reflecting the unconscious manifest destiny we live with. But the extension of the United States from sea to shining sea was the intention and design of the countrys founders.”
(from: https://www.jacobinmag.com/2014/11/americas-founding-myths/)
There is a lot more on Woody being squarely in the Thomas Jefferson camp of western expansion.
Look like the Progs are going to need to burn some records!
So this is for all 12 of the people who follow this club?
Written by a communist.
2nd amendment version:
This land is my land
This lands not your land
Ive got a shotgun and you dont have one
If you dont get off
Ill blow your head off
This land is private property!
Credit to some FR contributor who I dont remember.
Don’t be surprised or triggered if the fans remain seated and silent.
The only song that would have made me somewhat less despise them is if they had chosen ‘God Bless America’. F’km em!
