High school-educated, working-class parents arent capable of overseeing their own childs education, a state lawmaker said last week.
New Hampshire state Sen. Jeanne Dietsch, D-Peterborough, made the comment at a committee hearing last Tuesday while promoting a bill that would stop the state Board of Education from creating a new way of allocating high school graduation credits.
This idea of parental choice, thats great if the parent is well-educated. There are some families thats perfect for. But to make it available to everyone? No. I think youre asking for a huge amount of trouble, Dietsch said.
Dietschs remarks represent a growing trend among leftist politicians to belittle, even vilify, a parents role. The trend stems from an ideology that insists the nanny state is superior to parents.
Dietschs political commentary was a full-on attack on parental rights and education in America, with a side of elitism to boot.
A fellow legislator, state Rep. Glenn Cordelli, R-Tuftonboro, asked the obvious question of Dietsch.
Is it your belief that only well-educated parents can make proper decisions for whats in the best interest of their children? he asked.
Dietsch went on to explain that her views on what makes a parent qualified are based on her personal history, which seems like a biased way to examine a legislative proposal:
"In a democracy, and particularly in the United States, public education has been the means for people to move up to greater opportunities, for each generation to be able to succeed more than their parents have. My father didnt graduate from high school, so it was really important that I went to college."

PING!
FREE-DOM!!!!
On the up side, ignorant parents could learn right along side their kids.
We should get a rebate for property taxes allocated to schools. But that won’t happen. It should.
Just what I thought shed look like.
My wife is a college graduate who home educated our four. She readily admits she learned as much as the kids
And Senator, one is a book editor, another is an aerospace engineer entrusted with multi billion dollar satellites.
School shmool!
You can’t educate your kids! It will reduce our power!
HS ping.
My wife, a high school grad; homeschooled our three kids. Two are college grads and third is a tradesman.
Dont get above your raising. Ricky Skaggs said that.
Are you sure its a she? Anyway, mandatory masks for kids could trigger health problems. Hopefully Grandmas (and Grandpas) will step up to the plate to help with the homeschooling.
She needs to wash her hair.
Parents can and do learn along with their kids.
I did.
And both my sister-in-law and my best friend went to college for teaching degrees.
Imasked them both the same question and that was whether a teaching degree actually taught them to teach. Both of them, separately, told me no, nothing in their teaching degree prepared them for classroom management, or taught them HOW to teach, that you were expected to learn as you go as a teacher
My best friend, who is excellent at math, said that shed have been far better off with a real math degree than the watered down crap they gave her for her teaching degree. She said it was not rigorous or thorough enough.
Any parent could have become a teacher if they chose. Its not a matter of intellectual ability, but of commitment to see the student learn and no one has a greater vested interest in that than the parent.
Its also common knowledge that the students who do the best in school are the ones with the most parental involvement, which in effect means the parents were essentially doing the home schooling using school materials, and the school is taking credit for it.
PLEASE HOME SCHOOL YOUR KIDS. The government schools have become Marxist indoctrination centers. They cannot be saved. Where do you think the morons tearing down monuments around the country came from? You want YOUR kids out there in the NEXT WAVE? That assumes, of course, that we SURVIVE THIS ONE. The short video at the link explains.

BINGO. I had to teach my youngest 1st grade Reading, his teacher failed at it. His dad a Math whiz Electronics Trouble Shooter, wrote a simple flash card add/subtract for the Commodore 64 taught him math. Board of education applied when attention wandered. This was the beginning of all this crap they teach today, he’s 35 now, no chance to go to college, and I’m tickled pink. Show him, he learns it. Great dad of 2.5 yr old girl, has read to her since birth. If her mom goes back to nursing school, I only hope I get to keep her, don’t trust Daycares. I will teach her to read Christian stories.
looks like a cheap wig IMO
