For such things as recall petitions (there is one going to get rid of Whitmer) the Michigan rule is the officials must certify them as “correct.”

Thus, in the City of Ann Arbor (U of Michigan area) people are used to signing their address to each other informally as “A2” (A-squared, as AA for Ann Arbor’s first letters). All know what the person means. BUT not for these petitions-—all of which were thrown out as “invalid.”

Wonder if Provincetown, MA can throw out “P-Town” they often use to each other on grocery frequent shopper cards and so on.

6,699 ballots were signed Mickey Mouse and 1 ballot was signed Al Capone.

All of the other ballots perfectly matched the voter registration signature!!!!!

Takeaways

• I hope they communicated well that they were only mailing ballots to people active in the last two elections. Don't have a problem with that otherwise.
• The thousands that showed up claiming they had never received ballots, need to be reviewed to see if they share some commonality, like same postal delivers, conservative sections of town, were inactive for the last two elections, etc.
• Kudos for checking the signatures. How did they do that? Electronically or manual? Manual is more open to abuse.
• Kudos for trying to contact voters to confirm. There should be further followup, perhaps a mailing indicating they need to come in and bring ID or be removed from roles.
• The 14% that were returned as undeliverable need to be removed from the roles. Unless they were one of the thousands that showed up in person, and then they need to be investigated. Did they move, do they even live in the area, are they committing voter fraud, etc.

We need to gear up for this level of effort for every place that uses mass mail in ballots.

Also, the person who showed up, who already had an active mail in vote, should have gotten to vote, and have the mail in vote removed.

A lot can go wrong, but with the proper controls, it can be managed. I really think we’re fighting a losing battle on mail in ballots, and should focus on getting controls in place.

On the brightside, 14% were undeliverable and need to be removed or investigated or both. Sometimes it goes right.

Of those ballots, just under half were counted after election officials contacted voters and confirm the ballots. The rest were not resolved and were not counted.

This is very interesting. This implies that they contacted all of the questioned ballots and the other half did not confirm. “Nope, I didn’t fill out a mail in ballot.” I would love to see the details on this. Proof of fraud?

Maybe this went right too.

There were 14% of ballots undeliverable. That includes dead people, people that moved as well as fictitious addresses, all fingerprints of voter fraud.

If the registrar screened 6,700 ballots out because signatures didn't match that might be as positive as it could be negative in connotation.

It all depends on the integrity of the officials doing the screening.

The standard for matching signatures is VERY low. If 1% were rejected, then probably 10% or more did not match.
