Timeline of how Bubba Wallace noose was found and reported
AL.com ^ | June 24, 2020 | Mark Heim

On Tuesday’s edition of “First Take” on ESPN, Wallace identified mechanic David Cropps as the team member who found the rope.

“When my crew guy – who happens to be African-American - saw that he did his research first,” Wallace, a native of Mobile, explained on “First Take.” “I was very proud of that. David Cropps, a guy I’ll stand by in any trenches on any day, walked up and down the garages to make sure he wasn’t overreacting. He saw that other garage pulls were basically just a solid piece of rope, no knots in them, and we have a knot that’s in the shape of a noose.”

Wallace told The Dan Patrick Show he told the FBI he questioned Cropps and crew chief Jerry Baxter to make sure “they didn’t jump the gun” on what they saw.

“I asked them, ‘Did we check the other garages?” Wallace said. “Both of them said in their heart of hearts that it was done over night. This isn’t something that can be done in minutes. This took time.

One track that does have the one car doors with similar design is Charlotte, and you can see in this video several garages have a loop tied in the pull down rope, so it is a common thing to do which makes Bubba a liar since he said he and his crew have never seen these anywhere before.

Yup. Too many examples to say this is intended as a political statement of some sort. Nobody made an issue of it before because they aren't sensitive to perceived racial sleights.

Not on your life. He’s got the that special melanin exemption. Or melatonin or tanin or whatever it’s called. He’s pigmentarily immune.

I did a search and learned that a similar knot to the noose is used to raise & lower sails on boats. It is also used for couple of other reasons in boating, though I can’t remember what, as I’m lucky to remember reading it was used to raise and lower sails in sailing.

He was raised as a priviliged White boy but that won't help his mediocre racing career.

Now, being an oppressed minority AND a victim of a hate crime, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.

Not surprised. I believe people who sail use a lot of knots. I think it used to be a thing for sailors to know knots. :)

My biggest fear in CG Boot was failing the knot tying part.
Never forget that day in front of the Brass Rail

I guess they took "knot tying" very seriously. I would think it was an anachronism on modern ships, unless they were actual sailing vessels.

Glad you passed. :)

in the late 60’s it was or seemed to be as important as staying afloat after going over board.
Drown proofing was a big deal then too

These CG Rescue Swimmers of today simply amaze me to no end with their stamina and ability.

If you have never seen them in action do a search CG Rescue Swimmers

Check this out

Yeah, but those garages were completely demolished and rebuilt last year. Nearly all the old ones had loops tied in them and I’m pretty sure the ones on this new garage would be the same after a few years.
