I have a friend in the central valley CA who as a youngster picked cotton along with his family.
He’s white, not that there is anything wrong with that...

The summer I turned 19 (1964) five of us East Tennessee Satte college freshmen piled into a VW Bus and headed across country to work in the bean canneries up in Washington state. we were all white, I think. Didn’t pay much attention to race back then, we all needed the money for college.
