Yeah, they were. Best part was (at the time) the Giants were disconnected from SF City Hall. There was a lot of bad blood over the years with the lack of support from SF politicians for the Giants. Giants ownership had to foot the bill for much of them building PacBell Park (yeah, I know, it’s no longer called that - screw ‘em).
As I recall Mayor Willie Brown asked for World Series tickets and was declined for that very reason.
