President Trump said he has authorized federal law enforcement to arrest those caught vandalizing memorials and charge them under the Veterans' Memorial Preservation and Recognition Act.
"I have authorized the Federal Government to arrest anyone who vandalizes or destroys any monument, statue or other such Federal property in the U.S. with up to 10 years in prison, per the Veterans Memorial Preservation Act, or such other laws that may be pertinent," the president tweeted Tuesday morning.

All other memorials desecrated thus far were under state jurisdiction. Since the riots in DC have broken out, the jurisdiction is to the federal government.
Absolutely. My God, we’ve had such acts on the books for what? Decades? And this wasn’t invoked the first second a memorial was vandalized?
And why the hell does the PRESIDENT have to order law enforcement to enforce the laws? He shouldn’t have to do that.
Sometimes it is prudent for all to see the evil agenda of progressives, anarchists, and Deep State before acting. If POTUS acted immediately; his motives would have been questioned and an "investigation" would have been started against him.
You and I wish he would have done it faster but I understand why the wait. He has to keep a groundswell of public opinion behind him. The BLM Marxists for a while had public opinion behind them, but as leftists always do, they overreached and went too far.
The public is now behind Law and order and public safety.
Yep, they need to start the arrests at the first observation of this, have a cam there and throw the book at these thugs.
Plus, see post 3
I and a whole lot of others agree with you, but IMHO he was letting all these Dem, and some Republican, Governors and Mayors show the country and the world where they stand on things. He’s been pretty clear from day one, that local problems demand local control and solutions. The Federal Monster doesn’t have to solve every problem, nor should it. These folks were chosen to lead, let them lead or fall flat on their faces.
Leading up to his re-election, he’ll be able to campaign not only for himself but some folks on the state level, as well. Nothing like bringing up the Republican candidate for Mayor or Governor, on stage, while holding a rally.

And people go to the polls, run to the polls, when ANGRY. It's a motivator, and I am angry that these Lefties have allowed this destruction and lawlessness. I'll bet I'm not the only one spitting nails.
These are federal monuments. The game has changed.
The Veterans' Memorial Preservation and Recognition Act is a federal law that was passed in 2003. The legislation states that anyone caught attempting to "injure or destroy" a "structure, plaque, statue, or other monument" commemorating "the service of any person or persons in the armed forces of the United States" that is located on public property can face fines or a prison sentence of up to 10 years.
Meanwhile, priceless, irreplaceable statues were being torn asunder, destroyed and ruined by thoughtless thugs and mobs, while law enforcement did nothing, most likely they were told to stand down.
I wish Trump had come forward with this immediately.
.....This action is taken effective immediately, but may also be used retroactively for destruction or vandalism already caused. There will be no exceptions!

Fortunately, all of the chaos, violence and destruction has been confined to the cities. The Dem Controlled cities.
If/when that stuff starts to move away from the cities, things may take a drastic turn.
