WHO reports largest single-day increase in Coronavirus cases; Oklahoma sees new daily record

The World Health Organization has reported the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases by its count, at more than 183,000 new cases in the latest 24 hours.

The UN health agency says Brazil led the way with 54,771 cases tallied and the US next at 36,617. Over 15,400 came in in India.

Experts say rising case counts can reflect multiple factors including more widespread testing as well as broader infection.

Overall in the pandemic, WHO has reported 8,708,008 cases — 183,020 in the last 24 hours — with 461,715 deaths worldwide, with a daily increase of 4,743.

More than two-thirds of those new deaths were reported in the Americas.

The number of newly confirmed coronavirus cases in Oklahoma has set a new daily record of 478.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health department reported Sunday that total confirmed cases rose to 10,515 from 10,037 a day earlier.

The state’s previous record of 450 new cases in one day was set Thursday. Interim state health Commissioner Dr. Lance Frye has said a surge in coronavirus cases was expected after the state began reopening in late April.

The new wave comes amid ongoing demonstrations to protest police killings of Black citizens, Juneteenth celebrations and a Saturday campaign rally US President Donald Trump held at an indoor arena in Tulsa.

The health department on Sunday reported one virus-related death. Oklahoma’s COVID-19 death toll how stands at 369.

That said...I work in a OK small rural hospital..and no one that I know at the Hosp has got the COVID...

Many thought they already had it months ago,,,,some took a free antibody test...Most I heard of..were NEG.

Keep testing and so doing prove the death rate as a percentage of infections is lower than my initial math in March, which was .18 and is now .08
