The [CHAZ] neighborhood is the heart of Seattle’s gay and counter-culture district, and is densely filled with businesses and apartment buildings. CHAZ now claims all of it.

Wait until the owners of those businesses and apartment buildings get their next real estate tax bills. One hopes that Mayor Dooky’s precious little exercise in flouting lawful authority will be the basis for either a big discount or a class-action lawsuit.

Several are permanently leaving already, because they see np rescue coming.

Talk about a food desert, right? At least one was a grocery store. Clearly, these people aren’t self-sufficient.

According to all of the cases dealing with the issue of “taxable situs,” the basic justification of a state’s power to tax property within its borders is that the property enjoys the “protections and benefits of the taxing state.”

The property in CHAZ certainly isn’t enjoying much protection or benefit from the State of Washington right now.
