Yeah I saw that article myself when researching this madness this morning. Then I saw that picture of the CNN screen capture and it all made sense, given what I wrote above, and also even what you wrote.
Yeah it’s possible also some watching it all unfold on Twitter and such, who weren’t there yet, were scared away by early reports of violent protesting, that again apparently (from what I’ve been able to find) were 2-3 hours before the event. But people who wanted to go, and were already there, could and were able to get in eventually, as pictures from the same gate in question clearly show people streaming in unimpeded, probably after the anti-trump lowlifes were suppressed.

The bottom line is, for whatever reason, there weren’t that many people at the rally. Even the Washington Times reported “But areas outside the arena appeared to be sparsely populated about an hour before the president’s arrival.”, confirming the screen capture from the CNN feed.
I still maintain the healthy response to this is not to try to explain it away with claims of protests interfering with those who wanted to get in, and in the future not to tout numbers of “requests” again; only after the event tout the numbers. And to use this infantile behavior by a bunch of spoiled kids as a reason to never let electronic voting occur again.
