President Donald Trump’s campaign promised huge crowds at his rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday, but it failed to deliver. Hundreds of teenage TikTok users and K-pop fans say they’re at least partially responsible.
TikTok users and fans of Korean pop music groups claimed to have registered potentially hundreds of thousands of tickets for Trump’s rally as a prank. After @TeamTrump tweeted asking supporters to register for free tickets using their phones June 11, K-pop fan accounts began sharing the information with followers, encouraging them to register for the rally - and then not show.
The trend quickly spread on TikTok, where videos with millions of views instructed viewers to do the same, as CNN reported Tuesday. “Oh no. I signed up for a Trump rally, and I can’t go,” one woman joked, along with a fake cough, posted June 15.
Thousands of other users posted similar tweets and videos to TikTok that racked up millions of views. Representatives for TikTok did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
“It spread mostly through Alt TikTok - we kept it on the quiet side where people do pranks and a lot of activism,” said YouTuber Elijah Daniel, 26, who participated in the campaign. “K-pop, Twitter and Alt TikTok have a good alliance where they spread information amongst each other very quickly.
Many users deleted their posts after 24 to 48 hours in order to conceal their plan. “The majority of people who made them deleted them after the first day because we didn’t want the Trump campaign to catch wind,” Daniel said. “These kids are smart, and they thought of everything.”
Twitter users Saturday night were quick to declare the social media campaign’s victory. “Actually you just got ROCKED by teens on TikTok,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York tweeted.

Well how about this, you prioritize people with local addresses (and maybe check voter registration affiliation and in suspicious cases check for social media activity) and you charge everyone from out of town $25 to be refunded at the door. All tickets for locals get mailed to physical addresses that have to match names, all reservations for out of towners are held with the refundable $25.

I have followed Kpop for over ten years. The “second generation” had some great songs. The younger American fans have a mob mentality. I have likened them to the demon children of Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift fans. There is also a sick subgroup of fans called saesangs. If you want to see creepy, disturbing behavior, look that up. A mild case was a group of girls who shaved their heads and stole boy’s high school uniforms. That allowed to them to get into the men’s bathroom Their “idols” were using and meet them.
Frankly, this is residue from the confinement. These children haven’t been able to get out and have over indulged on their negative little culture.

In some respects, what happened here was predictable. So I hope that Trump takes notice, and considers running his future rally efforts virtually. Then, when millions watch, the lame stream media won’t be able to denigrate the response.
Apparently there were hundreds of thousands of Trump supporters that put in requests for tickets but did not show. Aren’t they equally responsible for the turnout numbers?
Sure, Team Trump should have questioned the huge registration for the location.
But by giving Team Trump bragging rights to a million registrations, they may have helped goose the number watching online by millions.
