[MT] Group Claims Enough Signatures For Recreational Marijuana Vote
Montana Public Radio ^ | June 19, 2020 | EDWARD O'BRIEN

A group seeking to legalize recreational marijuana in Montana says it has gathered enough signatures to put the question to voters in November's election.

The ballot committee, New Approach Montana, says it has turned in 52,000 signatures in support of a ballot initiative to allow retail marijuana sales at a 20% tax rate.

Organizers also turned in more than 80,000 signatures for an accompanying constitutional initiative that would allow the legal age buying age of marijuana to be set at 21.

The committed collected signatures from all 100 state House districts, spokesman Pepper Petersen said, all while taking precautions to prevent disease transmission during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

“We think it represents what’s going to happen in November, “ he said. “There’s going to be an overwhelming support for this in every corner of the state. There’s not a legislative district that’s not represented in the signatures. We feel like the support out there is deep and wide, and it’s really exciting.”

Election officials must verify signatures before the measures are approved for the ballot. According to the Associated Press, campaign finance reports show New Approach Montana spent more than $1 million collecting signatures.

Legal in a lot of states now, it will soon be legal in all just like cigarettes, gambling and alcohol.

They can’t turn down the tax money.

No state has reversed its decision to go legal.

There are still some dry (alcohol) counties in Texas though.

Legalize it, tax it and watch the tax revenues rocket up.

Yep. You're stoned alright.

Everybody needs revenue, and each state has their way of getting it. Kansas watches for Colorado plates, same thing.

I don’t care whether it’s legal or illegal but let me know when any state reverses back to illegal pot because it causes too many problems.

Will do. I think that’ll happen right after systemic racism is removed from American society.

California is smiling and heading your way MT.

California was California long before legal sale began in 2018 - so in what way will it "head MT's way"?

NobleFree says: It beats enriching violent criminals in a futile attempt to suppress marijuana use.

Notice what's missing from this list of needed supplies. Marijuana. Obviously that is available in copious amounts.

A hypothetical story.

3 young men split time between Seattle and Boise.
They acquire a large amount of good quality weed in Seattle.
The double vacuum seal it and put it in a duffel bag or suitcase.
Two of the men drive back without any weed, so it’s fine if they get pulled over.
The third takes a Greyhound bus with the weed.
He gets off in Idaho at a stop where the other two will pick him up.
They break the large amount down into individual distribution components.
They go to the college and make bank.
They also get government assistance for being poor.

Almost sounds real, right?

As are alcohol and tobacco. What of it?

I smoked pot maybe 9 or 10 times. Did one line of coke. Cant count all the beers or bottles of whiskey and wine

I am not saying potheads can’t be violence but I know people drinking alcohol can be. I have gotten into enough bar fights when I was young to know.

I know I’d rather deal with a pothead than an alcoholic :-)

Folks tend to be on the older side here and may not have seen too much drug use or known about it so I give some slack :-)

Hot damn, it is you. You’re pretty easy to spot though. The endless pot obsession, not all that many have it on here. Plenty in the dumpsters do though.

Why can't you addicts stay on HighTimes.net? You're wasting your time and FR's bandwidth with your idiocy.

Don't answer. You haven't posted a rational or coherent thought here ......... ever.
