Celebrities, public figures and fans alike have signed a petition to replace a Tennessee statue of a KKK leader with one of Dolly Parton, a native of the state and a beloved pop culture figure.
The online petition has collected over 16,000 signatures and calls for the states officials to honor a true Tennessee hero, Dolly Parton. The page continues saying, Tennessee is littered with statues memorializing Confederate officers. History should not be forgotten, but we need not glamorize those who do not deserve our praise.
The statue in question resides in the Tennessee Statehouse and represents Nathan Bedford Forrest, a Confederate general, slave trader and KKK leader.
In December, petition author Jeremy Faison told the Tennesseean, If we want to preserve history, then lets tell it the right way. How about getting a lady in there? My daughter is 16, and I would love for her to come into the Capitol and see a lady up there Whats wrong with someone like Dolly Parton being put in that alcove?
Celebrity residents of Tennessee, Taylor Swift and Reese Witherspoon, have both publicly called for the removal of the statue. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and actor Henry Winkler are among the public figures supporting the movement for a statue of Parton to replace that of Forrest.

A lot of white supremacy.
If you think the 19th-Century Ku Klux Klan was a violent racist organization that was founded and headed by Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest after the American Civil War youve been completely deceived by anti-South historians. In order to understand why the original KKK emerged and why Forrest and the South supported it one must see the crimes, outrages, and unconstitutional activities of the liberal North and its radical South-hating politicians.
The Reconstruction KKK (which is in no way connected to the modern KKK founded in 1915) was a conservative organization intended to be temporary that had thousands of black supporters, assistants, and members, formed to protect Southerners of all races from the Norths injurious and vindictive Reconstruction measures.
Not only was there an all-black KKK den in Nashville but many of the whites who came South as part of the Norths Reconstruction program were members as well. In order to procure votes, more easily control the populace, destroy traditional American values and implement their progressive agenda race-baiting liberals promoted a fake Southern race war thats being perpetuated to this day. For opposing this effort Forrest and the Reconstruction KKK have been smeared with a mountain of lies, slander, and anti-South propaganda.
Nathan Bedford Forrest and the original Ku Klux Klan have been unfairly tarnished by a century and a half of attacks after striving to save the South from the blight of two Freedmens Bureau Acts and the four Reconstruction Acts. To replace his bust with "The Bust" is an insult to his legacy and another shameful attempt to rewrite history for the sake of revisionists who strive to combine his ruthless (and brilliant) Civil War record with the evil latter Klan he denounced to his dying day.
And Ms. Parton is a National Treasure in her own right, deserving her own place in Tennessee's Honored. Ted was wrong to drag her into this without her input.
They’ve already torn down at least one statue of George Washington.
At least one named building so far. A Woodrow Wilson school changed name too. Of course George Washington is in the line of Fire too.
Whatever sport. I read Cruz opportunistic tweet. That is what I was responding to, along with the concept of replacing the Forrest standard.
She does. But not one placed where another man who deserves to be remembered had his ripped down.
Why not the Jimmy Dean sausage guy?
Ah, milking a situation for all it’s worth.
Please keep me abreast of this expanding opportunity
Well, that went on forever
I, for one, am perfectly capable of deciding for myself who is worthy of my praise and who is not worthy.

My comment about not reading articles was strictly on Cruz. I like Cruz but his political jumping on the bandwagon without knowing the facts (not reading FR article syndrome) was what I was referring to.
I really did appreciate your information and the time you took to post it. This is where FR shines, info like yours.
One of my favorite quotes from the very witty Dolly Parton: It takes a lot of money to look this cheap!
Seriously, Im entirely in favor of Dolly being honored. She has been extremely generous at giving back, such as her wonderful childrens literacy program, and her large donations after the Smoky Mountains wildfires a few years ago.
