WASHINGTON — The U.S. attorney who oversaw key prosecutions of allies of President Donald Trump and an investigation into Trump’s personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani is resigning from his post, officials said Friday.

Geoffrey Berman is stepping down as the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, Attorney General William Barr said in a statement.

Barr said Trump intends to nominate Jay Clayton, the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, to the post. The U.S. attorney in New Jersey, Craig Carpenito, will serve as the acting U.S. attorney in Manhattan, beginning on July 3, Barr said.

It was unclear why Berman was leaving the position after serving for more than two years. The announcement, made late Friday, came after Barr visited New York City and met with local police officials there.

Sounds like he was fired. The previous SDNY, Preet Baharara also refused to step down when fired by Trump, and was forced out. US Attorney’s serve at the pleasure of the President. SDNY thinks they are completely independent of the executive branch, and cannot be fired. SDNY is the worst.

Seems Barr or an official gave his ‘step down date’ for July 3rd.

A little unconventional for an employer to give an employee a two week notice before their services are no longer needed.

Maybe Barr wants him to spend more time with his family?

The announcement, made late Friday, came after Barr visited New York City and met with local police officials

I'll take a wild guess: the NYPD had given the feds tips on how Antifa/BLM was coordinating with radical city officials and Berman refused to get involved.

We see local government giving a wink and a nod to let violent radicals do their thing.

I would bet if these relationships and communications were properly investigated, we would see that it is more than a wink and a nod.

The feds of course have famously gone after Southern local governments in collaboration with violent groups denying blacks civil rights, and under Obama the feds investigated local governments and police departments from Ferguson to Baltimore to see if local government employees even made a joke about Obama.

But it seems Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Oakland, etc. and of course DiBlasio's people can do whatever they want.
