Just like the Hamptons. Stay forever. What is the incentive to pay rent?
To: KingofZion
Landlords are the evil rich. Just ask the multi-millionaire liberal politicians.

I foresee no rentals in San Francisco.
But long term hotel rooms.

I wonder what the consequences will be. I imagine the supply of rentable properties will shrink. Yielding a net contraction of affordable housing.
Virtue signaling is so satisfying even when, or better, especially when, the results are completely unvirtuous.

Did they give landlords the same jubilee to their mortgage holders?
That will spur investment

You can be sure that even before the Wuhan Flu it took 2 years to evict a tenant in San Fransicko. Now it will probably take 4 years.

This is step 1 in perpetuating the virus-related panic in SF for at least the next year or two. You’ve got at least 10 moonbats on the city council, plus the mayor and the goober in Sacramento.
What could possibly be wrong?

Contract law? Gone. Personal property, nope.

I wonder what the consequences will be. Only those with sterling credentials will be approved for leases. Or Landlords will insist of full-year rent being paid in advance.

So are they also telling the banks they can’t require the landlords to make their mortgage payments?

Then property taxes should be optional. How would that go over?
To: Still Thinking
The landlords will be exempt from property taxes during this period—or not... :-(

I cannot even believe this kind of thing could happen in America. Total disregard for the landlords property, expenses, and other issues. A landlord could even watch their property being destroyed and they can’t do anything about it. This is pure lawlessness by politicians. Some landlords only have one or two properties and there entire income and life is dependent on the income. This completely destroys those landlords. They will have to go live under a bridge before this is over. This becomes a matter of demanding that a landlord provide housing, repairs, and pay the property taxes for such tenants housing just because the governors order it to be so. Think about how evil and lawless that is.

Inverse condemnation of all rental properties. If someone can find a judge in California who is not a socialist they have a good class action lawsuit.
