House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Thursday ordered the removal of portraits in the Capitol of previous House speakers who served in the Confederacy as part of an effort to "appropriately observe Juneteenth" on Friday.
Pelosi said she discovered the four portraits as she was taking inventory in the Capitol of Confederate statues, which she is also trying to remove but can't do unilaterally.
"Tomorrow, Juneteenth, the clerk will oversee the removal of those Confederate speakers from the House," Pelosi announced at a press conference at the Capitol. "There's no room in the hallowed halls of this democracy, this temple of democracy, to memorialize people who embody violent bigotry and grotesque racism of the Confederacy."
Pelosi sent a letter to the House Clerk Cheryl Johnson requesting the removal of four previous House Speakers to honor Juneteenth, which is observed June 19 and commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States.
To appropriately observe Juneteenth this year, I write today to request the immediate removal of the portraits in the U.S. Capitol of four previous Speakers who served in the Confederacy: Robert Hunter of Virginia (1839-1841), Howell Cobb of Georgia (1849-1851), James Orr of South Carolina (1857-1859), and Charles Crisp of Georgia (1891-1895),"...

We’re going to tear down her portrait in the Capitol the first chance we get...
3 of the 4 were Democrats. One was a Whig.
I would sort of think I included him in
ANY & ALL who were in Congress/Senate that had ties to KKK or such
I hope one of the statues falls over on her. She’s a despicable, race-baiting, vile woman.
She is also a class A female dog!!
She couldn’t get the statues on her own as much as the little wannabe dictator wishes she could, so she had to settle for this pathetic pander.
Pelousy is obviously suffering the effects of being dropped on her head. She gets more and more bizarre every day. I am still laughing at the kente cloth virtue signalling stunt. How asinine, to see a bunch of mostly white scumbag politicians kneeling and wearing African cloth. The native-born American blacks have no real connection to Africa either, so seeing them with those stupid scarves was immediately filed under, “Can you believe that?” The whole thing was just a stupid stunt.
The Botox has done rotted her brain.
Or the alcohol...?

I thought we gave everyone but Davis a pardon?
Reconciliation clearly is not on her mind.
Let me guess, what party did these speakers belong to?
I think I remember Davis getting a posthumous pardon during the Carter administration.
Maybe the capitol building should be torn down since no one there represents the people. They just steal our tax dollars.
The Court will say you don’t have standing to bring the suit.
Hey, I’m all for Texas going back to being a republic.
While we are at it let’s ban the DNC for their involvement with the Confederacy
When did we start observing Juneteenth?
I’ve heard of it but it was never a “thing”
Beats me, I had to look it up a few days ago to see what it was and now it’s supposedly a big thing.
The Democrats suppressing knowledge of their own history. Later they will claim all these people were Republicans.
Pelosi might as well remove the portrait of EVERY house speaker prior to the emancipation.
Please remember the Civil was not fought (initially) over slaves.
ALL Union states were slaving states.
That is why the underground railroad bringing escaped slaves to freedom went to Canada, because any escaped slave caught in Union states would be re-enslaved.
It is only when the war dragged on, and given the larger population of slaves in the Confederacy, that the Union attempted to cause them to rebel in several southern states by offering black slaves their freedom.
So the FIRST emancipated states were Confederacy states, not Union states.
What is all the BS and history re-writing that says that the Union and the North were not slavers?
In fact the Union states were even worse, they were the slave traders that bought and brought the slaves in ships from overseas, many slaves dying in the process.
We must thank god, that perceptions changed over the war and for the genius of President Lincoln. Grudgingly the Union as a whole came to accept the freedom of slaves and that dark page in our history was over.
