ABC Writes Glowing Portrayal of Brooks as Dedicated Family Man, Criminal Record Tells Different Story

ABC News published a glowing piece about Rayshard Brooks, the man killed by former Atlanta police officer Garrett Rolfe after he resisted arrest, assaulted an officer, stole his taser and discharged it, saying he was remembered for his “hard work and dedication to family.”

The news outlet spoke with those who worked with him at a construction company in Toledo, Ohio, and his wife. Though ABC describes that he was in Ohio “tending to his father.” What's not mentioned, however, is that he had failed to notify his probation officer of his new address and a warrant was issued for his arrest while there. Additionally, nowhere does the story mention his rap sheet of this 'dedicated' family man, which includes convictions for felony cruelty to children, family battery violence, false imprisonment, interference with custody, and more.

Rayshard Brooks was on probation and faced going back to prison if he was charged with a DUI, DailyMail.com can reveal.

It was the fear of incarceration that likely caused Brooks to panic in the face of imminent arrest and caused him to make a break for it. [...]

The charges to which Brooks pleaded guilty and for which he was still on probation dated back to August 2014 when he was convicted on four counts – False Imprisonment, Simple Battery/Family, Battery Simple and Felony Cruelty/Cruelty to Children . He was tried in Clayton County and sentenced to seven years on the first count, with one year in prison and six on probation and 12 months for each of the other three counts, sentences to be served concurrently.

His sentence was revised, and he was sent back to prison for 12 months in July 2016 when he violated the terms of his probation.

Brooks had not been in trouble since that year until last December when he went to Ohio without informing his probation officer and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

That warrant was revoked and the case dismissed when he returned to Georgia on January 6. (Daily Mail)

District Attorney Paul Howard announced Rolfe faces 11 charges, including felony murder and aggravated assault, criminal damage to property and violations to his oath of office--a move that riled police in the city, some of whom have reportedly not responded to calls, turned in their keys, and not showed up for their shifts.

Perhaps the police in these liberal cities that adore BLM, protestors and Antifa should get the flue. Might change public perception enough to have them rebel against the lying media.

“ But so far as I can tell neither of them did anything that warrants the death penalty.”

This “ didn’t deserve it” business is moronic. People die everyday that don’t deserve it. Very often it’s a direct result of actions they themselves have taken.

So the perp, on top of everything he did wrong prior, assaulted the pursuing officer with a deadly weapon.

Evidently he shot the other officer with the TAZER while they were struggling over it.

“But Brosnan’s attorneys disputed DA Howard’s claims. The attorneys said it wasn’t Brooks’ shoulder, it was Brooks’ upper arm that Brosnan put his foot on, and he did so because the Taser was on the ground within arm’s length and Brosnan didn’t want Brooks to reach out and grab it.

They also claimed that Brosnan had been diagnosed with a concussion suffered during the fight with Brooks prior to Brooks escaping with Brosnan’s Taser. They then added a new fact that I hadn’t seen reported yet — during the fight, Brooks was able to use the Taser on Brosnan, causing Brosnan to collapse forward, landing on his head, and that was how Brosnan suffered the concussion. Brosnan told other officers and paramedics at the scene that he was still dizzy and seeing stars. He said in his statement that when he was following behind Rolfe, he didn’t know who was firing when he heard gunshots.”

Brooks had already escalated the fight to deadly force, when he pounding Rolfe’s partner’s head into the pavement. Had he also hit or tried to hit Rolfe in the head before the chase? He then tried to hit Rolfe with the taser. Very dangerous, if he’d been successful at zapping Rolfe and turned to fight again. Should someone as dangerous as Brooks at the time be allowed to escape?

Hard to tell on the shooting for those of us looking through hindsight. DWI/DUI alone presents a lot of liability these days for cops who let drunks/druggies go. With the judicial environment and so much legislation over the years, this is not like the 1950s or 1960s for sure.

Rolfe’s partner had a concussion from the head injury, BTW.

You don’t know shit about law enforcement and act/react situations.

I can take someone like you, bring you in to an act/react building, hand you an automated pistol and put various scenarios in front of you on a screen. You will not walk out of the building without f’ing up and “killing” an innocent person. And this is in an environment where you know it’s not really life or death.

I am very tired of the hoards of people I see who know everything about something they know nothing about.

I watched the bodycam footage.
Brooks seemed retarded.

Both cops had to repeat every single question & instruction multiple times & he seemed unable to comprehend simple English.

Plus, he had no clue where he was, he gave obviously false answers to how he & his car got there, and 3 different answers to what he’d been drinking.

The cops were way too patient— they should have cuffed him within 5 minutes.
