Gavin Newsom considering statewide mask order for California, county officials say

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration is considering a statewide order to require the use of masks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, according to officials in several counties in contact with the state.

The discussions are occurring as many counties contemplate their own mask rules in response to spikes in coronavirus cases as businesses reopen.

The Democratic governor said at a Monday news conference that California’s hospitalizations, ICU admissions and positive test rates are stable. But the state is still closely monitoring counties whose numbers are more troubling than the statewide averages.

I'm not in California (blessedly), but a couple days ago I went to drop off my vehicle insurance payment at my agent's office.

There was a big sign on the front door:
YOU MUST
WEAR A
MASK TO
ENTER

I didn't

And they still took my money

And no one in the office was wearing a mask either.

Nuisance doesn’t know about “granularity”. A ten year old could figure out that some counties are better at controlling viruses than others, and mitigation efforts should target the counties at greater risk (LA is foremost).

I live in City of Los Angeles...People are required to wear masks in public...

I have been wearing a mask only to enter grocery stores...
At other times, I don’t wear a mask...

LAPD does not harass people for not wearing masks...I passed by officers, without wearing a mask...Cops never asked me why I did not wear a mask...

The lion’s share of the new cases are in LA, San Bernardino and Orange counties. There is no reason to implement the same policies for the rural counties up north that apply to the hives down south.

I was in DC about two weeks ago (when things are
Normal, I work there!). Ghost town. One lone woman was crossing the street walking her dog. No one around her for blocks. She was wearing a mask. Unbelievable.

I have no problem with Newsom and his mask requirement. But he will have to order the creation of mask free zones to those that want to go without to rest their breathing problem created by the masks. It is the opposite of smoking bans using medical reasons to stop it. This is using medical reasons to adhere to the ruling.
