DOJ to unveil plans to strip tech giants of protection from being sued over content on their platforms after Donald Trump accused Google, Facebook and Twitter of anti-conservative bias

The Justice Department is preparing to roll back the legal protections big tech companies have used to shield themselves from lawsuits over their content, a move that comes after President Donald Trump threatened to shut them down over what he says is bias against conservatives.

The reforms would make companies like Facebook, Google and Twitter more liable for a wide array of content posted on their sites.

And it would also push those companies to be more aggressive in addressing harmful conduct on their sites, The Wall Street Journal reported, and to be fairer and more consistent in their decisions to take down or downplay content.

The plan from the Justice Department involves legislative reform to the law known as Section 230 - the original legal code governing the internet - so it would have to be adopted by Congress, including approval from the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives to become law.

Don't get me wrong, these tech companies have too much power and they're using it for evil. Anti trust applies as does stripping their immunity from libel suits (i.e. remove their status as a neutral platform). They need to be reigned in.

I'm just saying that the Dems are already using the Flynn thing to subpeona DOJ malcontents to say stuff that makes Trump look bad, now they'll bring in more to say Trump's tweets made DOJ pick on a poor little company just trying to make a living in a harsh, cruel world. And they'll cray and wail about how unfair orange man is and here come Abuse of Power Part II.

The phone companies are private firms too. They are not allowed to deny service to people for pretty much any reason other than ability to pay, nor are they allowed to monitor and / or censor your phone calls. Because they are a platform, a medium used for communications, they bear no responsibility for the content on those calls, and cannot be sued for what happens on their lines.

In their wisdom, congress gave that same status to a bunch of left wing ideologues who are actively censoring one side only. It's just wrong. They can't have the right to censor AND claim public utility status. Pick one (too late actually, they chose and the law needs to shift to follow their decision to be activists).

Just ban H1B trash from working in the US. MUCH more effective. The tech giants will comply.

witter, Facebook and YouTube want both the editorial control of a publisher AND the legal immunity of a platform provider, but the responsibilities of neither. <<<

BINGO!....

but we’ll have to define “responsibility” over again!!

( What is your definition of responsibility?
responsibility. A duty or obligation to satisfactorily perform or complete a task (assigned by someone, or created by one’s own promise or circumstances) that one must fulfill, and which has a consequent penalty for failure.)

Here comes impeachment part 2... Google has lots of dough and they own lots of politicians who already want to get Trump. ‘He politicized the DOJ! unequal treatment!’ will be the charge.

Big Tech owns Mike Lee who chairs the anti-trust sub committee in the Senate. There will be no support on Trump DOJ’s flanks here.

Tucker called out Mike Lee (said he hoped Lee does NOT win re-election...and, that he shouldn’t even be a sitting Senator), as well as Doug Collins and Sensenbrenner, for being owned by Google...aka preventing investigations, etc.
